Pontiac G8 - Exported from Australia

In today's local media there is news of a Holden (GM) deal to export the new Pontiac G8 to US and possibly Canada. Take a look at the article in this link.

Holden to export SS to US - Motoring - CARSguide

Then you NA Members can start racing against the G8 instead of the GTO

don't think it'll be much of a race unless they throw in the LS2 motor from HSV, according to the Drive.com.au comparison between the SRT vs Holden Commodore SS/SS-V the benefits of the SRT 8 over the Holden was:

Engine Performance
0.1 l larger engine
Valves per cylinder
64 more horsepower
47 more kw
39 nm more torque
14.0 less carbon dioxide level (g/km)

now, if they threw in the LS2 engine from the HSV GTS, then the difference would be the following to the SRT 8 also:

Engine Performance
0.1 l larger engine
Valve gear type
13 more horsepower
10 more kw
19 nm more torque

There was no curb weight for the HSV but the Commodore SS/SS-V was about 100kg (slightly over 200lbs) lighter than the SRT8.

might be pretty good competition with the the 5.7 though, apparently it's got 20kw (27 hp) more than the 5.7 yet 250lbs lighter

The problem with the GTO is that they didn't spend the money to convert it right. For instance, they movied the fuel tank but to do so didn't change the body, they simply put a box protruding into the trunk. Also, it didn't exactly look muscular but it wore the GTO badge.

Just trying to catch up with my reading here.

Sorry, doesn’t do anything for me. But I guess they are going for a different market than I would be interested in. I do have one question…does GM own Holden or a chunk of it or something? Sorry…..but I’ve never figured out their connection. Thanks for sharing the article.

I'm sure there will be a rush to purchase this vehicle by current Pontiac customers. I'm curious to what the price will be once imported and stickered??

Boy I guess they do go wayyyyyyyyyy back! GM bought them out in 1931. Very interesting read about Holden as I certainly had no idea it was a GM subsidiary. Thanks jjs for that interesting glimpse of automotive history.

My only knowledge of Holden was their special Hello Kitty Edition
