Chrysler in talks to Market Chinese Chery cars as Chryslers

Oh dear The following is an article which appeared today in one of our local newspapers:

"CHRYSLER'S BITE OF THE CHERY

Chrysler is in talks that may see it sell Chinese-built small cars. The company announced in the US this week that it plans to sell rebadged Chery cars as Chryslers to attract 'very young buyers'. A spokesman for Chrysler Group Australia says there are no immediate plans to bring Chrysler badged Chery cars to Australia.
"

Watch-out in the US

Hi Guys!!

I sincerely hope that the little entry-level 'Made in China' cars will NOT be 'badged' as Chryslers. That would be REALLY stupid. Which means - of course - that's probably exactly what WILL happen. Call it a 'Dodge' something or other. Or better yet - use the introduction of the 'Made in China' cars as a 'way' to re-introduce the 'Plymouth' brand. Speaking of which... I've read that there are quite a few within the 'Chrysler Group' that keep insisting that the Plymouth brand name be brought back. But those who head DC refuse to entertain that idea. I think dropping the Plymouth brand was silly. [To put it mildly] And even sillier now - that the 'Chrysler Group' is finally catching on to the importance of having quality 'entry level' CARS. I've often wondered if Chrysler understands the importance of name recognition and reputation. If someone says, "I own a Lexus", everyone knows that they own a nice car. If someone says, "I own a Cadillac, or Lincoln or Acura", etc., it's the same thing. But if someone says, I own a Chrysler, what does THAT mean?! OR what WILL that mean IF the 'Made in China' car becomes a Chrysler? You don't see GM using the Cadillac or Buick brand to sell entry level cars. They use the Chevrolet brand for that.

The all-new Plymouth Ping. Doesn't that sound good?!

Craig!!

Sounds like a winner to me as long as they don’t add an “a” on the end of Ping. Anyone know Spanish?

Don't know Spanish but here is a little trivia for you:

The Mitsubishi Montero 4WD is marketed in most other countries of the world as the Pajero. Apparently "pajero" is very close to the Spanish word for "wanker".

With due respect to any 300CForums members who own a Mitsubishi Montero or Pajero, I think the link to "wanker" is very appropriate

just because chrysler is in talks doesn't mean it will be branded as a chrysler i'm sure. If they were to bring back the Plymouth brand, i don't think they would report "Plymouth is in talks with China".

i think when they say Chrysler, they mean Chrysler Group.

Hi Spectre!!

For some reason - I wanted to call you 'Spectre 7'. Is that James Bond character or something?! lol

That said..

I sure hope you're right. I truly would HATE for it to be branded a 'Chrysler'.

[But I said that already - didn't I?! lol]

That’s great about the Montero and I’ve got a friend that drives one. Wait till I tell him he’s driving a “wanker.”

If we take Craig’s name for the car “Ping” and add an “a” to the end of it you get “Pinga” This is Spanish for a “member” of the male anatomy.

Danno, yeah I believe the difference in the name "pajero" is to change the last letter to "a", PAJERA = WANKER
