new vette (moved)

has any one here hard of the new corvette and viper coming out. both are the 2008 models i belive. apparently the viper will have a 8.4L V-10, and the corvette will have its 7.0L 427 but chevy is throwing on a supercharger. the viper will make 600 HP and corvette is supposed to make 600RWHP. the vette is also going to have a lighter body as well. amagine pulling up to one of these thinks at a red light in your srt 300.

cool

Yes, have heard these rumors. My question is what is the limiting time factor for quarter mile runs in regards to factory or street tires? You mention 600 rear wheel hp for the Vette, with street tires, how much can a good driver put down? A lot of techniques can be utilized to drive incredible power, but there is also some limit without huge slicks. I am speculating mid 11's with street tires may be about the limit.

Also, a huge potential to lose control of the vehicle unless one is an experienced and calculating driver. Some kid or knuckle head that just puts his foot to the floor could wrap up with a telephone pole, mail box or fire hydrant before one can blink an eye. Even worse, kill some innocent person.

I would love one of these vehicles, but I dont fit, at 6' 7", I need the room of my SRT8 ! I hope they pump up the volume to 500 hp on the 300 SRT8 someday. But currently have to launch with caution or have wheel spin issues. Have run a 12.93 with good hook up, but also 13.5 with wheel spin.

yea actually traction is the first thing i though off. the z06 7.0L makes 505 hp and that thing rips the tires apart. im sure chevy will up the tire size on the vette. but im sure if your carefull enough at launch you can get minimal tire spin, then again im sure traction control will be speacially designed for if you bring it to a track or just street race it. there is a limited amount made thought only 2000 supercharged vettes a year, and from wat ive read this is supposed to be some speacial car for 08, the new camaro is supposed to be the king after the vette. i think thats the car GM is trying to get more attention for. and ya i think you should have some sort of background driving a car with 600 RWHP

from wat is out there now i think the lease reliable car for traction is the cl65 amg or the mercedes twin turbo v 12 veichles. 612 HP 738 FT-TQ.

looks like the SRT group better get busy on the other SRT cars instead of just working on the viper

Here is a link to the Viper you’re talking about. The Vette I think you’re describing is the Blue Devil and there is much debate to its reality. Hope this helps.

no problems

modern traction controls will manage the car well enough. The only question is how much of it do you dare to disable.

I have a lot of seat time in a new ZO6 and it has at least 3 levels of traction and stability control. BTW, it is a terrible daily driver as you can't even talk to each other without yelling.

But OMG when you get on it!

Apparently the Z-06 is more race car than street car. I am sure you have all read the magazine road tests as to how brutal the car is to handle on the street as well as the track. Sounds like the comments being made about the Viper when it first came out. It will be interesting to see if the so-called Blue Devil ever makes it to production, being supercharged and all.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I like this return to the horsepower wars of the 60's

Contrasts

I am continually amazed that people with Large 4 door sedans are comparing them to sports cars. While the new ZO6 is bad ass in every performance category, it truly is a poor choice for a daily driver. I would pretty much place the Viper in the same category, but my only seat time in them has been at my multiple SRTTE's. But I suspect they have the same or worse NVH as the Vette at highway speeds.

I have a small sports car that weighs in under 3 grand and has about 500 HP. It's great fun for an hour or so and then you have to get some relief! No way would you want to set off on a trip or anything! But it can run with any of these new cars in a straight line. So far!

So I guess I wouldn't care if I pulled up to one at a light. Not going to interest them a bit, because I'll have my stereo thumpin' and my A/C blastin' in my quiet and smooth SRT8!

This is a great time to be alive!! I wasn’t old enough or financially secure enough to enjoy the previous HP wars…..but I am now! Bring it on baby!

I hear you Steve…I’ll take my nice quite smooth A/C’d ride anytime. The Viper would not be fun as a daily driver. This is why my SRT 10 is used for recreational activities only.
