2007 Toyota Tundra - FIRST DRIVE

Hi Guys!!

Click on THIS to read a FIRST DRIVE article on the all-new for 2007 'Toyota Tundra'.

QUESTION:

If you were in the market for a full-sized pickup truck - would you consider the Tundra?! If not - why not?! Because it's a Toyota? Because Toyota has no full-sized truck 'history'? "Because my Granddaddy drove a Dodge - Daddy drove a Dodge and gosh darn it - I'M gonna drive a Dodge!?" lol

Just so you know... I'd probably buy a RAM. But I'd certainly LOOK at the Tundra - at least.

How about you?!

Craig!!

Looks like Toyota wished they designed the RAM. So they did the next best thing. Make a clone! If I ever was in the market to buy a pickup, I'd at least look at it. But I'd probably buy a Domestic.

Would never consider buying a Toyota truck! I've driven trucks my entire life! The 300C will be the first car I've ever owned. As for why I wouldn't consider it...dunno. To me, Toyota is a car company - not a truck company. I appreciate them for making a nice, everyday, run-of-the-mill, safe, looks-like-every-other-type-of-car-on-the-road, blah car. Really, I do. There is a market for that type of car! But please don't try and bring that crap to the truck world!!! It just won't fly.

If you took all badging off an assortment of cars made by Honda, Toyota, GM, Ford, etc... I probably wouldn't be able to tell you which is which. When you see a Chevy truck, you know its a Chevy. When you see a Ford truck, you know its a Ford. When you see a Dodge truck, you know its a Dodge. When you see this new Toyota truck, you have to carefully examine it to tell whether its a new Dodge or a Toyota.

Foreign auto makers KNOW cars. Foreign auto makers do NOT KNOW trucks.

Just my .02

No thanks. I’ll keep my “ultimate” truck. There is no way in hell I would buy a truck from them!

I did consider one when I bought my Dakota....I didn't want something as big as a Tundra/F150, but I didn't want something as small as a S10/Tacoma.

Dokota was the ONLY choice in my price range for size, looks, performance, it COULD NOT be beat...Now, I have no idea, that was 7 years ago.

However, My neighbor went thorugh purchasing a half ton truck. The Ram won in his mind hands down. It was the best bang for the buck. I was shocked because he was a diehard Ford guy and shortly before that I heard C&D gave the Nod to the Titan as being the best value, then the F150.

It goes to show there is a lot of what consumers look, or don't look for that C&D overlooks on an individual basis.

If I were to buy a full size truck I would never consider the Tundra. It's not big enough. I'd get either an F250 or a RAM.....Know why?

DIESEL BABY!

'Nuff said!

Ugly grille on the Tundra looks like a stuck on afterthought, I'll take a Silverado.

Hi vvv90!!

That was true - before. But not now. The new Tundra is definitely the equal - size wise - to ANY full sized truck. And with a 381 h.p. 5.7 litre V8 - unquestionably competitive. BUT... no diesel engine option - as of yet.

i'd never consider one, my great uncle has a '01 tundra 4x4, i hate that thing. the brakes suck, way overly touchy, the interior rattles and sqeeks with only 24k miles on it. the V8 makes some ugly noises again with only 24k miles on it.

if i was in the market for a fullsize, without question i'd buy a ford F-series, theres a reason its been the best selling fullsize for 30 years running, not to mention i know what great work trucks they are(all my grandpas company uses is f-250/350 dzl's) i would never consider a toyota car or truck.

Craig!!

I don't believe Toyota makes a super duty truck to compete with the line-up from American truck makers. I could be wrong. Like I said, when I was shopping for one 7 years ago it was the case. I need to brush up on the newest truck offerings since I'll probably be in the market again shortly.

But I do know if I bought I'd get Diesel. There is NO reason not to. More power and better fuel economy....AND and a better modding base considering the power just a chip swap can get you.
