I Have A Printer Problem?

I was wondering if anyone can help me out here. I was trying to print something out and noticed that the ink was just about out. So I canceled it in midsession. New ink cartridges were put in and it hasn't worked since.
Now all I have is a printer picture on my actives bar that has a question mark on it.

I have tried everything I know..which when it comes to printers/computers isn't much.

HELP!

Please keep it simple, no big computer terms.

If you can't clear it, restart the computer and turn the printer on and off, it will clear it as windows shuts down. It should at least.
Yes it still has what I was trying to print in there and status reads..
error printing.

I'll pull it out and check it again. I thought that was strange.

Okay I am sitting here with black ink all over my fingers...no plastic covering on it.

Go into it? through the task bar?
