iPhone...Who else plans on getting one?

I'm going down to the Cingular/AT&T store at lunch to find out if I can get one on the 29th. I'm expecting a waiting list because it's probably going to be very popular.

I rationalize the cost like this:

I need a new MP3 players anyway, it would be nice to have a phone with a camera, Internet capability looks fran-frickin'-tastic compared to my POS Blackbery browser, AND my company has Cingular service so all I have to do is swap the SIM chip.

I can't wait! I'm not really a "gadget guy" meaning, I haven't had a phone of my own in about 10 years and I haven't been into palm pilots and such. (always took what my company gave me.)

This device looks like a TRUE ALL-IN-ONE hand held solution that I've been waiting to see on the market for years now. MP3, VIDEO, PHONE, BROWSER that actually works, PDA, and CAMERA.

Anyone else hyped or NOT hyped about it?

i'm getting one in October (contract is up). even though i'm a mac user (and a pc user) this device is for everyone. i've had other smartphones before and i'm looking forward to what this device will do in the future. after using my wife's blackjack browser (not good)...i'm eager to see if the iPhone safari browser is all apple claims (very good).

My son is all hyped up about getting one right now. But at $500, I'd perfer he wait until the price falls significantly (it surely will). Especially since they just had a baby and are supposedly "saving" money to try to build a downpayment for a house (vs. very small condo). Me? My ("ancient") Razor is doing just fine thank you... and I waited a couple years for it as well.

i need a new phone, but for me, this would just be overkill. im on the internet all day anyway, and i just bought a new 30gb Gogear Mp3 player, plus i cant see paying $500 for a phone thats gonna be immaculate in six months and probably crap out anyway. Im pretty rough on phones.

I can see me getting one in about 5-7 years (maybe). I don't have an I-pod because carrying thousands of songs around isn't important to me. I just got rid of my black Star-tac phone 3 years ago and only because it was more expensive to buy a new battery than get a new phone. We still have my old Motolla flip phone from 1991 and my wife used it until about 4 years ago. I'm thinking of donating it to a museum or something. I guess we are behind the times when it comes to cell phone technology. My opinion is, if it still works, it's fine for me. I've also never owned a PDA. When I'm not at my computer, I don't want to be bothered with e-mails. And Outlook works just fine for me.

I am so with you on this!!!

The only reason I carry a cell is for emergencies at the house while I am away from it and possible auto related emergencies while not near service stations, etc. Other than that, I want to be left totally alone when away from the office, house, and anywhere I have to be online. I, like you, also have no need for music to always be present wherever I am.

I am not a servant to technology or being 'connected'...I use it when I want to/need to, but other than that leave it out of my daily routine.
