Playing with my computer again........

A while back as some of you may remember I replaced the hard drive on my system. I have installed the old one as a slave temporarily. I am trying to import my email files etc and yahoo favorites from the old drive (E to my new one. Everything is still there, I just can't figure out how to import. When I try it in outlook on the new drive, all it looks for is outlook express on the C:, I want it to look in the E:, anyone have any thoughts on this?

PD have you tried using the import function in Outlook Express? This is how I moved my files from one hard drive to the other. Hope this helps....if not let us know.

To import messages from other e-mail programs

Using the Outlook Express Import Wizard, you can easily import e-mail messages from a variety of popular Internet e-mail programs such as Netscape Communicator and Eudora, as well as from Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Outlook.

On the File menu, point to Import, and then click Messages.
Select the e-mail program you want to import messages from, and then click Next.
Verify the location of your messages, and then click Next.
Choose All folders to import all the messages, and then click Next. You can also choose Selected Folders to import messages from one or more folders.
Click Finish.

Well, I was able to find the address book in the old drive (E and copied it to the desktop. Then I used outlook express and imported it. Then I was able to import it into Outlook from outlook express. What a pain in the ass. I will probably be able to do the same with my messages.............if I could find them. I have no idea where they are! Or what the file type is that holds them. I thought it was .pst, but I couldn't find that either.
HELP!!!!

What mail program were you using before the change?

If it was Outlook Express then locate the mailbox file by doing a search for *.mbx. From memory the easiest way to bring them back into Outlook Express is to setup your account in Outlook Express ready and then close the program before it downloads new mail. Then COPY the mbx files you found above into the dame directory on the new hard drive. You may be best to do a search for *.mbx on the new hard drive also to make sure you find the correct directory. I believe you will have an mbx filr for each of the folders in Outlook Express, i.e. Inbox, Sent Items....etc. Once you have the mail back in Outlook Express you should be able yo use the import feature in Outlook to get it into Outlook if you want to.

If it was Outlook do a search on the old hard drive for *.pst. Then from within Outlook goto File...Open...Outlook Data File and browse to the file you just found. Once you have this file open it will show up in the left hand pane and you can drag and drop the messages into the new inbox.

If it was Thunderbird I think you just need to locate the profile directory and move it accross.....similar to the Outlook Express procedure. Let me know if it was Thunderbird and I will double check the details on that.

It has been a while since I did this with Outlook Express so I am hoping I remember it correctly.

Good Luck

I got it done. The mbx got me on the right track, it was .dbx files that I actually had to find. The only thing after that was getting the files somewhere that I could import them from. But I got that done too. Just dropped on the desktop, impoted into my active outlook express, then imported them into Outlook from there. It's all good. Thanks for the help.

Thanks also Danno!!!
