Exclamation watch for bank emails people! (moved)

hey, thought I would share this just in case , so no one gets ripped off here...
I received an email from what I thought was my bank and it said something to the effect of" you have been sent this because of lots of recent activity..blah,blah," anyway, it said to click a link and sign in to verify my new password... When you click the link it brings u to a login page that looks and acts exactly like your banks, but its not and then they empty out your account. Luckily I seen in the bar on the bottom of the page that it was not in fact my bank so I called and emailed the bogus letter to their security dept. I guess theres a lot of this going on after Christmas....

I almost got fooled cause I recently changed my password and also was buying stuff for the 300c left right and center.... anyway, make sure you don't fall for it as you probably have a lot more in the bank than me!! And I am sure it would be a huge pain in the ass to fix.

Where have you been? It's called phising and any good anti virus program will usually recognize it as spam. You should never click on those links in the first place. Banks don't operate like that anyway.

This is also in the wrong forum BTW.

Some do get through, but like I said no banks operate this way and haven't for years. Phisers go to great lengths to imitate real banking sites. I use Norton Internet Security and it has fraud monitoring which gives you an alert if you go to a bogus site. Phising is everywhere including eBay BTW.

I never click a link like that...

Always just type the real address (the one you always go to) in the address bar to be sure you get where you think you should be..

I hover the mouse over links like that and look at the status bar to see the real address.. just for fun.... but never navigate to a page from an email

Believe it or not, but not too long ago I clicked on the link to this site from an instant e-mail notification of a subscribed thread and Norton identified it as fradulent. In this case I accepted it because as Steve pointed out I knew it was OK by putting my cursor over the link in the e-mail. Must have been some kind of glitch.

Another thing, never click on the "Unsubscribe" link at the bottom of these suspect e-mails either. I also make a point of checking all links in these e-mails that make it into my inbox just for laughs.
