it's great that Ford is adopting direct injection, but it's not anything "new".

The real world gains are incremental at best, and adding more complexity and moving parts, such as a turbo, is always interesting as they get it all sorted out. We'll all be the test pilots.

Probably the biggest gain to be had is in weight loss. I'd love to see some more high tech unibody designs with high strength steel and other alloys saving big poundage! And as the article mentioned, a high output V6 is much lighter than a V8.
