So shoot me, I'm beginning to think all forms of aquatic watercraft are repulsive!

Seriously, as I sit here, something big is hauling ass down the carquinez strait, probably a gigantic oil rig being carried by a tug boat (my guess), whatever it is, is making a VERY LOUD HUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM and I'm at least a mile or two away!

Look guys, I know some of you are stereotypical boat nerds, because ya have to have something to haul around with that dually diesel ram! But come on, wtf?!

I'm tired of boats. I'm tired of their noisy engines, tired of the gigantic pickups used to carry pleasurecraft all over the place (instead of leaving the damn thing in the dock), tired of hearing all the waste (unreliable, impractical engines?)

Gaahhahaha. It kinda makes me laugh, but some of the most irritating things in the world out there are boats.

I hope you guys really, really enjoy it, like, more than sex, because all that money down the toilet, noise and all, has got to be worth something.

I worked the tugs on the St Lawrence river for a decade and yes I suffered some hearing loss from the deisels. My pet peeve is Sea-doos. Personallly I believe only sailboats are true to the mariner spirit, yeah, if you can't sail stay on shore!

Why yes... I do enjoy my boat.. What is not to enjoy about going out, dropping anchor, turning on the generator and having Airconditioning or Heat, DVD, HDTV, Internet, Shower, Toilet, Microwave, Stove, Refrigerator etc etc...

And it gets 4MPG at cruise and is not noisy... (the last boat was!) this boat tops out around 38/40MPH GPS with the throttle to the bow.. I normally cruise 25/30MPH and use 15 gallons of gas to run 50 miles a weekend. And yes I tow it back home every time.. I like the bottom of my boat to stay shiney thank you...

I'll apologize in advance then. Mine will be pretty lightweight, should be quiet with a mid-sized 4-stroke and shouldn't be much of an impact on the tow vehicle's mileage (Grand Cherokee 5.7 with MDS). Details are in the blog in my sig.

David,

Nice work!

As far as loud boats go, my last one was a gross offender. A 23' Cudddy with a 496 EFI Magnum. She ran 70 MPH GPS and with the thru hulls open, was enough to offend anyone. I quickly outgrew my dreams of being an offshore boater (in the river) and decided that comfort was what I was after. And comfort I got in spades!

Us boaters are rarely ever satisfied though, and I WISH I could afford the new 458 Vista with twin Volvo IPS Diesels.

Not in my lifetime!

Hmmm well does my '07 Ram 1500 QuadCab 4x4 count as gigantic? It's a Hemi not a Diesel .

As far as keeping my boat in the water, you obviously don't realize how much that costs. It would be more than my house payment to lease a slip for the summer; plus that would limit me to one lake! Why would I wanna do that when I live within 5 miles of 3 of the most beautiful lakes in the Northwest? Plus my boat is only a 22 ft daycruiser.

Impractical engines? I think my 450+ horsepower 454 is quite practical, especially when you have 2 skiers in the water and 4 or 5 people in the boat! I just gotta get some of them to pitch in for gas this summer! Ooot if you come up to Idaho this summer I'll take you out on the lake and show you how much fun boating can be! I'll have the wakeboard tower done soon! Just remember to leave me some gas money..........

Here's some pics. Poor quality but all I had was a cell phone camera then; I'll get some better pics this summer.

I think you can let tugboats slide, they're built purely for practicality. If they're noisy, both the manufacturer and the owner don't give a toss. Noisy pleasurecraft are unforgivable though.
