Any GM gurus here???

Ill be picking up a 00 FireBird Formula in a couple of days, its an automatic, 8 cyl, t-tops, a all around nice car, im just buying it b/c its cheap, and i can beat on that instead of my SRT, i just want to know what kind of cheap mods i can do to it to make it haul some A$$, i know those 8's only need minor tweaking to put down some serious power, im just not to familiar with GM cars...i was thinking about just spraying it...what else could i do for minimal cash to have myself a cheap track monster...?

A good CAI and a Predator tuner are a good way to start on the cheap. You might want to think about joining a Firebird board for some more ideas.

Be careful buying a 2000 Firebird or even a Camaro. They all have an issue with pulsing lights. I would test drive the car at night to make sure it doesn't suffer from that issue. Do a google for Firebird/Camaro lights pulsing. The wife and I had a 2000 Camaro and it suffered from this. When I did research on this I found that the problem can't really be fixed. Some was able to have the problem fixed but others weren't.

Pulsing Lights/Headlights - LS1 Performance Information

pulsing, flickering lights - bad regulator or alternator? [Archive] - Chevelle Tech

Canadian Car Audio - Canada’s #1 Car Audio Forum - Rapid pulsing of interior lights ???

Ok cool thanks for the heads up, but this car is already bought, i just have to pick it up, im more than likely gonna make it a track car, bracket racer or just mod the hell out of it and make it strictly a track car, but thanks for the heads up

great choice

great choice! I have had several different years of Camaro/Firebirds, and found them to be cheap, fast and reliable.

Having been there and done that, here's my ideas.

Get a larger Mass airflow sensor. Cheap, plug and play, adds real HP. Works better with a large Cold Air Intake.
Open the exhaust, stock setup is very restrictive. I use a shop but others favor bolt ons.
You need a tuner. Diablo is there for ya.

What drivetrain? If stick, then you're good for a gear. If auto, get a converter first.

I finally have my software! Happy Diablo owner.

My Favorite "old car"... 73 Super Duty 455 Trans Am - 13.08 @109 mph when brand new! Just try and find one now!

Indeed, the cars an auto first off, and its a 97 come to find out not a 2000, so its packing the LT1...whoever had it before stuck some ws6 badges on it, i dont think its a real WS6, i know they came with a auto trans, but there is no ram air hood...can these engines benefit from a underdrive pulley at all? and i was just thinking about spraying the balls off of it...
