The rifle should be arriving today or tomorrow, same goes for my scope (ended up going with that Monarch one).

I thought LA had made guns pretty much illegal? What's it like trying to buy a handgun there (i.e. how many steps did you have to go through)? Virginia is wonderful - 30rd clip for my rifle? No problem!

wow that's some pretty fast shipping. Hopefully the weather is good up there and you can get it sighted in this weekend.

They have not yet... I think they may eventually make all fire arms illegal in California. If that happens I'm moving out. I'm new to guns but I think that every American should exercise their right to bare arms.

I had to take 30 question multiple choice test to get a "Hand Gun Safety Card" that is good for 5 years. I can only purchase one "handgun" every 30 days. You cannot have any felonies or have a restraining order against you to purchase a handgun or rifle.

On a personal note and not required in California, I took a hunter safety course a month ago along with First Aid, CPR for adult, small children, and infant course. I'm planing on taking a Tracking, Orientation, Mapping, and Survival course in late April.

That actually doesn't sound too much worse than a lot of states (btw, they might, I know MD does, have a funny exception to the one-gun rule. In MD you can buy 2 guns - but no more - within the same month if you buy them at the same time and the dealer is giving you a discount for buying more than one gun).

I guess where CA gets you is on the magazine capacity limits and things like that.

Good man to get a proper sling (and I take it you know how to use it to steady your shots).

So I'm taking it that you don't have monthly gun shows in California then? I like it because I can go in and find a gun I like, haggle with the owner/dealer on a price and walk out with it the same day. With the dealer you have to fill out some paper work and then they place a phone call to do a quick check but it takes max 1 hour.

I took the hunter safety course back when I was 11 or 12. It is required for anyone under the age of 18 that was born after a certain date if they want to go hunting.

Now that could be construed as (OVERKILL) but really a good article. I'm still chuckling! Personally I am somewhat old fashioned and prefer the pre 1964 model 70 Winchester with a Unertal scope.

Scope finally arrived yesterday. In the photo, it has the 20rd mag that Ruger won't sell to the public and stamps "law enforcement/government use only," even though they admit to having no issue with selling it to stores that will then sell it to civilians, rather than the 5rd magazine included with the rifle.
