Is there a bigger hypocrite?

So I've gotten some comments from co-workers, all in good fun, that I am now the biggest hypocrite they know. I tend my drive my SRT with a heavy foot because if God didn't want us to go faster he wouldn't have invented the HEMI. I also work in the fuel cell industry where it is all about green energy, hydrogen economy, and energy efficiency. I spend most of day promoting the benefits of fuel cell systems and telling sales reps that I like their pump or valve but would only consider buying it if it used 15% less power. I have a co-worker that just bought a Prius and I thanked him for canceling out my purchase. He got mad and said it's not suppose to work that way. I'm just waiting for the day when they ask me to park around the back so visitors don't get the wrong idea.

Tell them that if they're so concerned, they should pay to put turbos on your car

"'Bout sums it up for me"......

Tell him electric cars just push the pollution upstream to a coal fired power plant, thanks for the black lung.... that usually gets a good response

I bet there are a lot of people who sell stuff they don't believe in so don't sweat it. It should only encourage your fellow workers to sell their green products before you use up the worlds fuel supply!

Well I got plans to buy a beater from a coworker, little 2 door nissan, so that should help.

It's not that I don't believe in what I do, but there are a lot of other things you have to consider in determining what is green. Hydrogen generated from a coal isn't really that green. I've also seen a study that looks at dust-to-dust cost of a vehicle give in $/mile driven. A hummer H2 was about $3.50/mile a Prius was around $5/mile. The difference is that a hummer has a longer expected life and the batteries used in the prius have to be mined for the metal, sent over to China for processing, shipped back to the states to be installed, and then have to be properly disposed of at the end of their life.

And I'm going to try and negotiate turbos or a supercharger before the next promotion period.

Don't let the go green folks get to you. Drive what makes you happy. A guy I know made a comment regarding the big V8 in my car and said something along the line of "I bet that thing guzzles gas". I just replied that I only live 6 miles from work, so I don't use much gas anyway. For the record, the guy who made the comment makes an 80 mile round trip commute each day to work. He's thinking about getting a Prius. Driving a Prius would be a fate worse than death. You couldn't pay me to drive one.

It doesn't bother me, I knew what was going to happen before I signed the papers. And they way I see it, until they give me a company car they don't have much say it what I drive. Besides half the people there drive full size trucks that get the same or worse mileage than my car. I just see the irony of being in the fuel cell business and driving a high performance car.

Oh and a Prius can only handle 500lb of "cargo" which includes the driver. My SRT can carry 5 people and recommends that the 4 passengers be female between the ages of 18-25.

I was watching a Boston Legal the other day where the law firm were being sued for not being green. In the case one of the solicitors came out with this gem:

Hybrid batteries contain nickel that is mined and smelted in a plant in Sudbury, Ontario. A plant that has caused so much environmental damage and acid rain that NASA uses the so-called dead zone around the plant to test its moon rovers. ... That nickel then has to be shipped via massive containers to a refinery in Europe. Then off to China to be made into nickel foam, then to Japan to be manufactured, then finally all the way back to America. All that, just to put a single hybrid battery into a car. When you combine all the energy it takes to built and drive a hybrid it adds up to almost fifty percent more that it does to build and drive a Hummer.

"Hummers are greener than Prius" study makes it into an episode of ABC's Boston Legal - AutoblogGreen

I thought it was funny and worth a share :-)

You can tell the haters that when someone brings out an affordable high performance hybrid that sounds like a V8 and looks like a 300c you will be all over it. Is there a reason all hybrid cars look like sh!t?
