Does anybody else wonder how many times Obama was actually in attendance at that church?

I believe he said he's been a member there for 20 years. I'm under the impression that he went there weekly before becoming a US Senator. That Wright guy is pretty damned scary indeed. How these guys can bring politics into their sermons and still call themselves "Reverend" is beyond me. I laugh every time I hear the names "Reverend" Jackson, "Reverend" Sharpton, "Reverend" Farrakhan, and "Reverend" Wright. They are four of the world's biggest hypocrites and have proven time and again that they are anti-white. Any politician that closely associates themselves with those types of people should be scrutinized fiercely. Especially one who wants to be President of the United States.

See, being a member for 20 years means nothing to me, butbeing in weekly attendance does.

It seems fitting for a hypocrite like Obama to associate closely with other hypocrites

I can't stand his audacity to call other politicians "typical politicians" while he's being pretty damn scummy.

The fact that it hasn't caused a bigger uproar is incredible. I think that is kind of what Pat's thought train was aiming at, even if that article's intent may have been different. I don't want to get in the whole deal here, since I don't type well, and would rather do it in person, but I understand well the crux of his story.

If John McCain went to the same church, with the same sermon, for the same time, but everyone was white, would the community at large be saying it is OK, you have to understand the pastors background, etc etc.

I think not.

If you want to be open about race in this country, you have to open minded on all sides. Its a multi lane road

I won't know what to think of it until I know for sure how often he actually went to service.

McCain has done two things to ensure that I never vote for him (Keating Five, and "Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran" - if McCain went to a church where the pastor said this, I wouldn't be so concerned, but he said it himself). The question is do I suck up some of the problems I have with Obama and vote for him anyways, or do I write in Howard Dean.

Obama has given the impression that he was a frequent attendee of that church. He has stated that he and his family have a very close relationship with "Reverend" Wright and that it would be impossible in good conscience to distance himself from a man who has meant so much to him. What more do you need?

Oh, and by all means, write in Howard Dean. That guy is almost as much of a kook as "Reverend" Wright. Be sure to write in Teddy Kennedy for VP while you're at it, or maybe "Reverend" Sharpton or Jackson. They love the political attention.

Unfortunately, there really aren't any viable candidates in the upcoming election. So I guess I'll have to vote for the one who I "think" will do the "least" amount of damage to our country and our Constitution out of the poor choices we are left with. So I guess it will have to begrudgingly be McCain. Oy Vey

What's wrong with Howard Dean? Don't give me that "wooo" crud, tell me something substantive that's wrong with him.

If that's what Obama said, then I guess I can't vote for him. I haven't followed closely because I hadn't planned on voting for him anyways.

Far be it from me to defend John McCain but he was truly not involved in the Keating 5 scandal except for the fact he was one of the 5. The Democrats demanded that a Republican be charged as the other 4 were all Democrats and McCain got included. The prosecutor, however, refused to proceed with any of the charges against him because of his total innocence but as you can see the damage was already done. Let me also say, as a Canadian, that the office of President of the United States is an enormous privilege and responsibility to hold. The occupant(and his wife) must be seen to be beyond reproach when it comes to their beliefs on racial and ethnic tolerance. They cannot be those who would stand idly by as injustices and hatred are being perpetrated. They certainly cannot have as their friends and pastors those who are race baiters and hatemongers. For these reasons alone Barack Obama is unfit to be the President of the United States. And his sudden(?) realization that Rev Wright might be a bad spiritual advisor for a president and his subsequent statement that he would no longer attend the church if he remained as pastor only reveal the craven side of his character.

Uh...9 trips at Keating's expense, the most direct contributions from Keating out of the 5, and his wife had over $300k invested in a Keating shopping center. How many swallows do make a summer?
