Pat B might be a **** but we 'may' concede he might have a point.... although I don't think that article expanded on it enough to communicate to all folks who read it.. I thought it might have been condensed from one of his books or something.

And the point is, in it's most simplistic of forms.. Stop being the victim...

There have been entire races enslaved over the history of mankind, none of them done for good reasons.. The Hewbews seemed to survive and moved on.. Look at what they have accomplished in thier history..

The only "man" that holds anyone down, is themself. (and it applies to us all).

The conclusion that I'll draw is that Pat Buchanan cherry-picked statements from Obama's speech to make a straw-man attack that would appeal to his conservative readers. He was obviously counting on the fact that his readers would never actually listen to an Obama speech. If you really want to draw your own, informed conclusions, read Obama's speech here:

DRUDGE REPORT FLASH 2008®

If you need to be informed through sound bites, Buchanan conveniently left out things like this (underlines are mine):

"A lack of economic opportunity among black men, and the shame and frustration that came from not being able to provide for one’s family, contributed to the erosion of black families – a problem that welfare policies for many years may have worsened."
...

"In fact, a similar anger exists within segments of the white community. Most working- and middle-class white Americans don’t feel that they have been particularly privileged by their race. Their experience is the immigrant experience – as far as they’re concerned, no one’s handed them anything, they’ve built it from scratch. They’ve worked hard all their lives, many times only to see their jobs shipped overseas or their pension dumped after a lifetime of labor. They are anxious about their futures, and feel their dreams slipping away; in an era of stagnant wages and global competition, opportunity comes to be seen as a zero sum game, in which your dreams come at my expense. So when they are told to bus their children to a school across town; when they hear that an African American is getting an advantage in landing a good job or a spot in a good college because of an injustice that they themselves never committed; when they’re told that their fears about crime in urban neighborhoods are somehow prejudiced, resentment builds over time."

"Like the anger within the black community, these resentments aren’t always expressed in polite company. But they have helped shape the political landscape for at least a generation. Anger over welfare and affirmative action helped forge the Reagan Coalition. Politicians routinely exploited fears of crime for their own electoral ends. Talk show hosts and conservative commentators built entire careers unmasking bogus claims of racism while dismissing legitimate discussions of racial injustice and inequality as mere political correctness or reverse racism."

Ah, perhaps that last line is why Pat Buchanan wrote his article. Draw your own conclusions.

fact

politics!

1 - A political candidate will say anything to get elected.

2 - Reading a speech (usually written by someone else) may be a poor way to aid in your decision making!

3 - Someone needs to ask WHO WILL PAY for whatever is promised. I am tired of being the taxpayer!
