Question What's the BEST antivirus software???????

I just removed AVG antivirus for my CPU today! Man, it slowed down everything and didn't remove everything. Right now I'm using KASPERSKY's free trial and it's not bad at all, it's slows down the CPU alot less. I googled and yahooed till there was nothing left, and some many different reviews with many different results. I'd like to experiment with a free-trial AV before I dump money on something I may not like. There are many good ones out there such as NOD32, Norton, BITdefender, Ca, and so on.

What do you guys use????????????

I have used McAfee's Anitvirus software for the past year with no problems. It even monitors your wireless network. I purchsed the sofware for Office Depot last year for $39.00 with a $40.00 mail-in rebate. I actually made $1.00 on the deal.

I just updated mine last week from Norton Internet Security to Norton 360. They were both the same price ($69) at Future Shop in Canada. Both are good for up to 3 machines. I'm sure, like everything it's cheaper in the US.

The 360 is the complete internet/e-mail package and it seems a lot less of a processor hog. It has everything Norton Internet Security has and more. It includes:

PC Security for web browsing, e-mail & Instant Messaging
Transaction Security for secure online shopping and banking
Backup and Restore for important files (I use Norton Ghost for that)
PC Tuneup for removing clutter like temporary internet files etc
Up to 2BG of free storage and you can buy more

I've never had a virus using Norton products.

AVG slowing down your computer, that's not my experience. I have used AVG for years on multiple computers and the only time I notice it running is if I do a complete hard drive scan which is not necessary very often. Otherwise, it doesn't use much CPU power and doesn't take up much space in memory. There are some other more prominent and costly antivirus programs that are noted resource hogs. I can't judge its effectiveness compared to the other ones named but I have never been infected running AVG.

I'm a big computer geek and my preference has always been for Norton. Whether it catches more than McAfee I can't say, I just prefer the interface and support network.

I had a slight problem with my installation and the anti phising portion wasn't working. The Norton icon had an X on it. All I had to do was open the interface up, click on Support and it gathered information about my system which you can view before sending if you like. With the information it self diagnosed the problem and downloaded and ran the fix automatically. Can't get any easier than that! It was just a registry thing BTW.

Currently run symantec... no issues EVER, especially since the Army provides it to personal PC's for free.

Yeah I think Symantic/Norton has the market pretty much cornered. I would guess it's probably the most popular. This years product is so much kinder to the CPU than previous bloatware was. I've noticed that in the first week of running 360. I do sympathize with the OP on some of these anti virus programs and just how much they can slow things down.

Should have made this a poll Jason!

I don't put all the other functions other than the basic when I install. I just have symantec on this computer, and the desktop and wife have the newer symantec endpoint... both are clean and not bloated. I can't even tell they are running...

This is funny, but I removed KASPERSKY and re-installed AVG. The first time I installed AVG, I installed the Internet Security version and not the regular free software. I think that's what slowed my CPU cause now it runs fine with the basic software. I'm using Webroot Spysweeper also. I'm gonna use the free version until I decide whats best, besides the free version lacks other security services.
