New 09 Opel/10 Aura

This car is IMO fabulous. Why can't idiot GM build these cars over here.

Uh yeah, until you watch the crash tests for it. At 60kph the entire freaking car is a crumple zone. The passenger cabin is severely compromised and the engine would be a complete writeoff.

Interesting point, I always check the crash results including Youtube videos before buying any car. I bought my 300 in June 2004 before any data was out assuming with the MB DNA it would do well.

It would be surprising if the new Opel did poorly given that the current Vauxhall/Opel/Saab/Aura/Malibu do very well in the crash tests and in the side impact better than our beloved 300 even when the 300 is equipped with the optional side curtain airbags, in fact the side impact results on the 300 is marginal to poor!

The current Saturn (which is based on the current Opel) performs spectacularily in frontal offset and side impact tests. The "Good" rating is the highest possible rating. More than ten years after BMW introduced the side head protection, Chrysler still does not include it as standard equipment on the 300. Even entry level Hyundais have side curtain head protection.

I think you are confusing the Opel (with spectacular results where the windshield does not even crack at 45mph (well above the 60kph you refer to) with an old Holden Commodore which disintegrates like the old VW van.

No reason to believe that the new Opel/ Saturn Aura won't perform as well as the current models and continue to perform better than the Chryco 300.

My mistake methinks. There's a chinese company called Opal which are notorious for this video
YouTube - New Chinese Car Crash Test Disaster - 2007 Brilliance BS6
Considering the similarities in appearance I suspect it's a nasty imitation.

Yes Gs, a death trap, Opel should get an injuction. Infinity software unsuccessfully tried to block Nissan's use of Infiniti, Ford kindly agreed not to name their Lincoln LS the LS6 after a request from Lexus concerning an infringement on the LS400.

Regarding Chinese cars, if you cant find a bridge to jump off of they would make a good second choice for killing yourself.

I've always liked Opels. They may not always be good on paper, or even good in person, but every Opel I've driven (which is a handful believe it or not) has been a boatload of fun.

Still though, the Germans do call them Popel (which means a booger, esp. one that is sorta on the top of your nose and visible to others).

Well, that's a good point...I guess it's not actually, and the person telling me that was just trying to differentiate it from snot now that I look into it. So it's simply the word for booger but not snot.
