Question Anyone have or just installed refrigerated A/C in your home?

I Need some advice from those that have refrigerated A/C or know about them. I currently have two evaporated coolers and looking for something alot better. My home is 2400 sqft and bi-level. I need a 2.5 or 3 ton upstairs and a 4 ton downstairs. I got one quote today and need to know if its decent or I'm about to be ripped off. I was quoted $11,275 for 2 Carrier brand units (Comfort model) installed using my existing metal ducts. The dealer said it would be an additional $1,400 for the electrical work (I can probably have my licensed electriction neighbor do the work for about half of that). The units are 14 seer using R-410A refrigerant. BTU's are 90,000 and 45,000. 5 yrs labor warranty and 10 year parts.
Now for the Questions:
1) Is this a fair price? What should I be paying or what did you pay?
2) Should I try to buy the Units wholesale elsewhere and have someone else install them?
3) I know how the seers rating works, but is 14 seers ok for dry climate such as in El Paso with very little humidity or should I go 13 seers?

I know this is WAY off-topic, but I'm moving on this pretty fast and need some input.

I don't have an answer for you Jason, but at least this will bump it to the top for someone who may.

You're obviously in a different climate than I am where the requirements are a lot less for us. We in Canada usually have one unit to do the whole house, even for 90+ days with high humidity. My house is ~3200 sq. ft. and that's all I have. Wouldn't it be wiser to consult someone like Sears to have a professional evaluation of what size A/C units you need? You're not obligated to buy from them either and it would save you the additional cost of getting more than you need.

Yeah, having dual units can also be a bit of a "what if it's a damn hot day and one of them fails" thing..
