Bah, Hertz, your loss

I almost did something very stupid. I had in fact decided that it would be worth dropping $430 (man, since when have there been all these additional fees?) for a 3 day rental of a Shelby GT-H when I'm in Palm Beach next month. And then they told me that at 22, no dice, I can't even pay a young driver surcharge. I guess instead I'll drop $163 on a V-6 Mustang (I know, V-6 Mustang ain't exactly muscle car, but the suggestive discounting of the NRA discounts make it only ~$4 more - over the total rental period, not per day - than a mid-size ).

Out of curiosity, has anybody ever rented a GT-H? How much am I missing out on? I mean, it's traction control always on and auto tranny, so how fun can it be (I'll never understand rental companies' obsession with auto transmissions - even in Germany, the "nice" cars have them; PORSCHE'S ARE SUPPOSED TO BE MANUAL TRANSMISSION, I DON'T CARE WHAT THE RUSSIAN MOB GOONS WHO RENT THESE SAY!!!)

There are a bunch of them around here in AZ. I've seen young kids about early 20's bring it to the track. They think the're top dog and then just about everything blows it away by the end of the night.

Unless their dad is renting it for them, they can't be in their early 20's as one has to be 25 to rent it.

Getting blown off at the track doesn't mean much though, as a lot of tracks see only the really hot cars.

Yeah, I'm sure they probably had their daddy rent it. And the tracks here get anything from a 1994 honda civic totally stock to a 1500 HP Viper. The nights that the idiots come out and bring all the stupid stuff are the nights Moose turns around and drives back home. I even saw one night where I guy was running an ambulance that he purchased from an auction.

But the cars I'm talking that blew the Mustang rental away were stock 5.7 Chargers and alike.

It's too bad you could not rent it...you seem like a good guy that would take care of the car and bring it back in one piece.

I wouldn't rent one to you either... I know what I was like when I was 20... Hell I'm no different now at 31... And I would never even offer a car like that.. I think they were nuts back then and are nuts today for doing it
