Teach your kids (and anyone in your house) what to do if the toilet begins to overflow. Even adults panic and grab towels. Simply reaching down and turning the shut off valve can save you hundreds of dollars in damage and untold savings in shizzle water running through your floors and ceiling below.
Even my 4 year old knows what to do and has practiced turning the inlet valve off. Ask your spouse if they know what to do, many people do not.

Good tip, but I'll bet most people haven't ever tried to turn those valves. It most cases they'll need a wrench to have a chance 'cause they haven't turned at all in decades! Same for those under the sinks, etc.

Well Tim, I guess it would be a good idea to turn those handles every couple of months to keep them movable for when an emergency does come up. This got me thinking of the Seinfeld episode where Jerry goes out of town and asks George to come over and flush his toilet twice a day. "George, you must exercise the gaskets"....or the gaskets will dry up and crack.
