I/we were spending around $1500 to $2500 per month on gas for our business back in Sept when prices were around $90. They dropped back to $75 and that's when I said "I have an idea." I'll buy oil now and if it drops, which I knew it wouldn't, I sell. If it goes up it will hedge my fuel between say $2.65 per gallon vs. $3.40 per gallon (or higher). I had no idea it would climb to $143 pb and $4.50 per gallon. But when oil goes up my investment goes up. I'm paying more for gas but you see I'm hedged with my oil stocks. I was able to protect my business from high gas prices all in one swoop.

I gotta' think there are a lot of others that did what I did which is in turn surging oil prices. But when you have a government a sleep at the wheel you have to protect your piece of the pie. And it was all done leagal.
Well its certainly a good idea but to do that now over 4 dollars a gallon would be really expensive.

There was a show on TV...I think it was 20/20 said that the Mall in Washington DC. was badly deteriorated and needed to be repaired. They showed pictures of the loose stone walkways and deteriorated bike and pedestrian walks. Now they are starting a donation fund to raise money to upgrade the Mall area. I think this is just another example how the fools in D.C. squander our hard earned tax money on frivolous things. It is shameful that we would need to go for donations to keep up our promenade area of the country!!!! If our representatives would spend money like it was their own the US would look allot better and we wouldn't have a national debt. I guess I'm expecting too much as most congressmen are poor financial managers with their own money. This childish management of our resources is one of many reasons we are in this oil crisis.

Wrong - a child could handle this better.

Not if it goes to $6 a gallon and you need to protect your business

Again yes i do realize this but gas is just one small piece of the puzzle that I can cut without hurting too much...

In other news, milk expected to be at over $5 per gallon within a few months...

I was there just a couple of months ago when visiting my parents. Didn't seem any worse to me than it was when I was 8. I think the real problem is a bunch of yuppies think that an outdoor area should look pristine - no appreciation for history and character.

Every aspect of society has been hit. The criminal defense department of the firm where I work has seen an unprecedented low in traffic cases. While before people would do something that would get their license revoked and get an attorney to get it back, now people are just saying "well, i couldn't really afford to keep driving anyways"

So...are you saying I picked a bad time to swap out my 80s econo 155hp 232ci V8 with 345ci V8 with lumpy cams (I may actually be able to improve city mpg by dropping down a gear now that I think about it), high compression pistons, enlarged valves, ported and polished everything, and custom high flowing fuel injection parts?

You were asking about how people have changed their lives? I've replaced dinner with having a snack.
