if people really want to make a difference instead of just rambling on about the cost of gas. Go to AmericanSolutions.com and sign the petition to start drilling now.

You do realize that every congress has a lower approval rating than the president of its time, right? It's the way people think. People vote their own rep highly but Congress as a whole very low, with the thought that "the guy I voted for can't be the one causing the problems"

Can I ask this: you say it's stupid to vote for Obama. What do you think about voting for McCain? (i'm going somewhere with this)

I don't necessary vote for the man. Even though McCain is everything Obama is not. At this point in time the Republican party overlays my beliefs the closest. It's strictly a matter of making the best choice at hand...definitely not what I would like! I will not argue as you have about as much chance changing my mind as I do yours........I have signed up and donated for AmericanSolutions.com....this is the best cause for lowering high gas prices!

Well what I was getting at was that McCain was in favor of the feel-good, do-nothing, gas tax summer holiday. That seems more like pandering than the stuff Obama does.

And as far as socialism is concerned, things like "X amount of ethanol MUST be sold each year" seem more like government regulation of private enterprise than taxes to me.

I agree the tax summer holiday is trivial as well as the stimulus. But as a person who has paid maximum SS taxes for over 20 years and never have accepted a unemployment or welfare check.....anytime the US government will give me money back I will take it as I feel I can spend my money wiser than the weasels in Washington!

Whoa whoa whoa, you think you can do spend more wisely than not properly accounting for $7.7 billion out of $8.2 billion? 15 bln dlrs in US Iraq spending unaccounted for: reports - Yahoo! News

You may have a point here..

How is it that Bush didn't scare the hell out of you 8 years ago? He single handedly drove everything he ever touched straight into the ground. He bankrupted an oil company, bankrupted the Texas gov't, and screwed over the tax payers of Texas as owner of the Texas Rangers baseball team.
You think this country is going socialist? I think if you look at the Bush regime you'll find that he and the republicans led this country closer to fascism.

Those statements are completely ludacris. I'd like to know where you are coming up with all of those completely bogus statements. Bush's largest failing as President has been allowing the federal budget to get completely out of control and not vetoing any legislation that added pork and socialists programs to it. When it came to spending, I often questioned if he was really a Republican. If McCain wins, I hope he has the balls to cut most of the pork and hand-out programs from the budget and be able to finally balance it without increasing taxes. Obama will obviously increase taxes (since he's stated so already) and you will see pork spending and socialists programs rise even more than the ridiculous amount that exist right now. He is the worst and scariest candidate for President in the history of our country. I fear for this country if the people are so stupid as to vote him into office. I'm already completely embarrased that Obama and D1ck Durbin are the Senators who supposedly represent me. What a freakin joke.

Wow!!!! DAVEW68 you expressed my sentiments exactly. The only way Obama can win is that people are so desperate they will try any thing. I was at Cedar Point this week and it was like a ghost town. It was really nice in a way cause I didn't have to wait to get on the coasters. The $4 gas is really beginning to affect how people travel. I'm hoping the oil speculator's balloon bubble bursts soon and oil prices will plummet. Oh by the way my 300 5.7 averaged 32.8 mpg. This car is amazing for it's size. I even got to pass a truck on the way an when I stomped it really moved!!!!!

great thread

thanks to all who contributed meaningful info.

Dave and Chuck, so glad that there are still a few of us left. It saddens me how much regular folks base their opinions on the "spin".

To the alternative fuelers, modern cars emit the equivalent of flowers as emissions. They are so clean that just one old clunker can equal THOUSANDS of new cars in emissions. Changing to alternative fuels is a great example of political "spin" and will do nothing to help us. And it negates all the tremendous tech we now use to clean the air our cars use.

WE MUST DRILL. Then we must refine. Then we must realize that we will be pushed hard by the emerging Chinese industrial monster (and others) that is coming. We will fight more wars or we will perish.

No amount of namby-pamby "negotiation" will keep these emerging nations from trying to kill us as they grow. It's survival of the fittest. The weak perish.
