Nasty Hotel Remotes

You are familiar with the stories of the nastiest thing in the hotels is the remote. It is especially filthy if adult movies are available, you can imgine why. While Lysol may be a great germ killer, it wil do nothing for de soiling all those nooks and crannies.

Next trip, pack a gallon Zip Lock bag (mine is already packed in the luggage) and place the remote in it. Problem solved, the zip lock is cheap enough so get a fresh one for the next trip.

You know, if you stay at nicer hotels you won't have these problems. Also, just because it once had germs on it doesn't mean it still has germs on it.

Well, it sounds to me like this remote is visibly dirty, which is something I've never seen (my dad works in the travel industry though, so I always stay at 4 and 5 starhotels).

I don't usually see visible soil, my trips are all business so I get to stay at nice places Hilton, Marriott, LeMeridian are a few recent stays, it doesn't matter, they are all dirty. The several studies I have seen went to the average places like Super8 to the top end and all the remotes grew stuff. Pick and choose where you want to take your chances, this is a no btrainer for me.

I’m hearing you Kings! The latest thing freaking me out is the out break of bed bugs!! Even in the nicest places they’ve had reports of bed bugs. Nasty! The last time I stayed somewhere I wore OFF to bed and I could hardly sleep as I “thought” things were jumping on me. Turns out it was just the two waitresses that I had picked up in the bar who were doing the jumping. j/k

Still…..hotel/motels ain’t for the faint of heart or a germ phobe like me.
Good idea for the remote!

Since you're a germaphobe, you might consider taking a couple of 55 gallon trash bags on your trips and wrapping yourself up in those while you sleep. Just don't forget to cut some holes for breathing.

A couple of trip back, to the US, my wife and I both got Scabies from a hotel stay. These little nasties take up to a week to show themselves after they have burrowed under your skin. Sadly you are contagious days before you even know you have these little buggers as you merrily spread them around for others to catch.

We are fairly sure we know the hotel where we caught them, a Best Western in the back blocks of NY state.

I am a germaphobe from childhood, as a kid my grandmother would ask "do you want a sandwich" and I would say "yes, grandma, after you wash your hands, I'll have a sandwich". I am told, I am the only one who could get away with that.

Best Western is pretty low, you should have used your resources here in the states a little more. IIRC I told you about the Hampton Inn (not that you can't get scabies there) but when you are on the road late at night I guess "any port in a storm". You did avoid Youngstown I hope?

Next time, "Hampton Inn". Scabies is nasty, not to mention Demodex et.al. When Mike Tyson's rape trial happened, they could not use any evidence from the bedding b/c there were so many samples there. Remember, that chair with all those stains? It ain't coffee .

I think I might take our friend up on the 55 gallon plastic bag idea, that is brilliant, a total body condom, hmmmm, the next big thing?
