I'm neutral on the 'global warming: real or not' argument, but in the very least this media scare has shoved the world in general in the right direction towards less pollution in our atmosphere...

There is such a thing as global warming (and cooling), but it has nothing or extremely little to do with man or modern civilization. It is geologic (tectonics, volcanology and lightning fires, etc.) and related to the sun's highly complex cycles of output.

That is exactly correct! I couldn't have said it any better.
Yep, we humans only use about 3% of the land mass.
We are not as important as some think we are.
If the CO2 theory was correct, then how do you explain that from 1998 to 2007, even though the concentration of CO2 went up in the atmosphere, average planet temperatures (as officially recorded by weather stations worldwide) showed a tiny decrease during the same time?
Nothing wrong with proposing a scientific hypothesis. But it means nothing until supported by data. And tampering, manipulating or ignoring data is a big No No.
Just wait until we get a significant meteor or astroid strike or a big volcanic eruption and watch the climate change! As has happened, many times in the past, the resulting dust in the atmosphere blocks out the sun's rays and the earth's temperature plummets for a few months, years, or millennia.
And - we are spending billions of dollars scaling back CO2 emissions?
Give me a break. What the hell do they think plants breathe? CO2 of course - and in return, they give off Oxygen - vital to our survival.

I too am pretty nuetral to the whole global warming thing. Quite frankly, if the planet's temperature rises a few degrees and the seas rise as a result, I live 3200ft above sea level... no biggie to me .
But at the same time I don't believe that the proper argument here is "Well since the arctic ice sheet is getting bigger we can start polluting more." Hello? Plants take in CO2 and other crap in the atmosphere and turn it into oxygen; we all know this. However, humans aren't immune to the CO2, mercury, or other oxides we spew into the air. Our fragile little bodies take these things in and, instead of producing oxygen like plants, we develop something called cancer. It's recommended that people not even handle mercury thermometers anymore, so why the hell do you think it would be better to eat it in your fish? (or should I say more of it in your fish than you already do?)
But that's the way I see it. I could care less if the seas rise a bit or if I have to keep the air conditioner on for a couple of extra weeks... I just don't like cancer.

Carbon dioxide is generated as a by-product of the combustion of fossil fuels or the burning of vegetable matter, among other chemical processes. Large amounts of carbon dioxide are emitted from volcanoes and other geothermal processes such as hot springs and geysers and by the dissolution of carbonates in crustal rocks.
Carbon dioxide is used by plants during photosynthesis to make sugars which may either be consumed again in respiration or used as the raw material to produce polysaccharides such as starch and cellulose, proteins and the wide variety of other organic compounds required for plant growth and development. It is produced during respiration by plants, and by all animals, fungi and microorganisms that depend on living and decaying plants for food, either directly or indirectly. It is, therefore, a major component of the carbon cycle.
CO2 is a naturaly occurring chemical and without it life would not exist on this planet, You and other animals wouldn't have any plants to eat, It's not cancer causing.

And these plants and fungi have been doing just fine on the amount CO2 released from volcanoes and other naturally occurring geological events for far longer than we've even been walking on this planet. But you're right, I make the mistake of lumpin in cancer with CO2. I had meant for that to be the case with the mercury and other pollutants that are spewed into the atmosphere. Obviously though, too much CO2 is harmful and even fatal to humans, but in larger amounts than our atmosphere has (or should ever have).
Traffic police in many downtown cities in China live to only be in their mid-forties. And this isn't because they're being shot down or run over in large numbers either. Look at their environment; totally polluted. No environmental standards whatsoever takes a massive toll on their bodies. They are more susceptible to heart disease, nasal infections, various forms of cancer (especially in the lungs and throat), other lung disorders, kidney problems, and many other medical problems. There's a reason many Olympic athletes didn't want to compete in Beijing and why the Chinese government went to such extraordinary lengths to clean their air. We're simply not supposed to breathe the stuff our machines produce... simple as that.
