Obviously though, too much CO2 is harmful and even fatal to humans, but in larger amounts than our atmosphere has (or should ever have).
On Mythbusters, I saw a piece of a show where they busted a myth on CO2 cunsumption by a man in a bubble. They put him in there with only the oxygen that was already in there and he was breathing in the CO2 he was exhaleing. Guess what happened after hours in there? Nothing.

Of course there is global warming, it's called summer and global cooling occurs in winter. And, if I am correct most life takes a powder in the winter and blooms again in that warm period called spring, I believe.
And these plants and fungi have been doing just fine on the amount CO2 released from volcanoes and other naturally occurring geological events for far longer than we've even been walking on this planet. But you're right, I make the mistake of lumpin in cancer with CO2. I had meant for that to be the case with the mercury and other pollutants that are spewed into the atmosphere. Obviously though, too much CO2 is harmful and even fatal to humans, but in larger amounts than our atmosphere has (or should ever have).
Traffic police in many downtown cities in China live to only be in their mid-forties. And this isn't because they're being shot down or run over in large numbers either. Look at their environment; totally polluted. No environmental standards whatsoever takes a massive toll on their bodies. They are more susceptible to heart disease, nasal infections, various forms of cancer (especially in the lungs and throat), other lung disorders, kidney problems, and many other medical problems. There's a reason many Olympic athletes didn't want to compete in Beijing and why the Chinese government went to such extraordinary lengths to clean their air. We're simply not supposed to breathe the stuff our machines produce... simple as that.
That's why if anything needs to be done, China and other emerging industrial nations need to have similar standards as the old industrial nations.
CO2 is only being picked on by alleged environmentalists because it links greenhouse gases to oil and cars.

You've never heard of hypercapnia have you?
Tie a plastic bag around your head and let me know if you get the same results the mythbusters got after several hours.

So we have to wait for China and other countries like them to embrace our engergy standards before we improve upon ours?
There is nothing wrong with improving energy efficiency and reducing pollution, it goes without saying that both persuasions in the debate want that. It's the obsession with the so called greenhouse gases that distorts the whole thing. For example, the US and Canada have vast coal reserves but even "clean coal" energy production is verboten because it emits CO2. But what the rabid eco-fascists really want is a massive reduction in man's footprint on earth. Their worst nightmare would be to see the development of a clean, non-polluting source of vast energy such as nuclear fusion. CO2 is so central to all life on earth that there is no escaping it, sort of like original sin, and the green movement wants to be in the role of confessor to whom we keep paying to absolve our sins.

eco-fascists believe that travel on a plane should be a once in a life event, and that we should live like the native americans did long long ago. Well, except for the ones that used Tipis and rode horses (because exploiting animals is evil!)

We are constantly improving our environmental standards, But china with over a billion people will be polluting at a scale that the US has never seen, So it would be benificial for the entire world that some standards be in place in that country.
