question for both parties

Being conservative, what gives you the right to tell someone they can't be married or have an abortion?

on the other hand

Being liberal, what gives you the right to tell someone they can't bear arms?

What gives either of these parties the right to tell people to do things that are none of their concern?

Now I know both have their reasons (god doesn't approve of abortions, guns cause deaths, etc...) but why do YOU want to interfere with someones right to choose. What gives anyone this right?

The way I feel is that what my fellow man and woman does is none of my concern. If people want to kill themselves then so be it, why should I tell them otherwise?

All I ask is to keep it civil because if it becomes a flame fest I will ask mods to delete.

Vermont is pretty Democrat recently (in fact, would probably be better described as liberal than Democrat), yet has the best gun laws in the country. Dave says I'm a liberal, yet I'll never give up my guns. Heck, I'm even angry that the appropriations bills haven't let 18 USC 925(c) be used.

Grounded I agree with you for the most part except for the abortion part of your question. Abortion is murder, that's why it is wrong. Has nothing to do with conservative vs. liberal for me. It's also not about God since there is no such thing; at least not in the literal sense that some believe. I'm as libertarian as one can be and it just seems to me that murduring someone kind of tramples on THEIR rights!

I hear what you are saying. You believe the fetuses have rights as well and I suppose it makes sense. After thinking about it I can understand how you feel. I mean it would most likely be murder if you killed your Siamese twin (and you somehow managed to live). Could I see it as murder, in some essence yes. If my daughter got knocked up by some scumbag in high school my first stop would be to get one.

annnd I digress.

But lets say for instance it wasn't a matter of murder or not. Lets say it was strictly a morality issue and you "felt" it was a bad thing to do. Would you still impose your will on someone else?

My thing is that punishing murder is normally something for the state to do, so it shouldn't be a presidential campaign issue.

I hear ya.

Im in MA, gun laws here suck, but I enjoy my right to carry a concealed pistol.

90% of my family has or is still currently employed by s&w so it has been a big part of my life. This much exposure has also taught me to respect guns in general.

Believe it or not some of the VERY VERY VERY Liberal towns here in western MA are the ones with the most relaxed gun laws. They hold the constitution in pretty high regard.

I agree with you, but his question wasn't whether it should be a state or federal issue or whether it should be a presidential campaign issue; he asked how a conservative could justify telling someone else they couldn't have an abortion.

I've said before that I really don't care what a presidential candidate thinks about abortion because it is a state issue, and I still believe that.
