Question How often does this happen when you take your car to the garage ?

Mechanics 125 mph joy ride in customers car

Mechanics were supposed to be fixing a leaky radiator, but when the owner of a £30,000 Vauxhall Monaro car collected it from the local garage, he discovered it had been taken on a joyride at speeds of 125mph.

The owner of the car, who doesn’t want to be named, had installed a Roadhawk black-box recorder three months earlier.

Oh dear, oh dear.

There is a video in the link that is worth watching

I reckon this may happen more often that people think !

I've seen better..

A lady bought a Ford Cobra-R and raced it (road raced) brought it into the garage and said it was not running right. The mechanic got on an internet forum and ran his mouth about how she was stupid and he had the car up to 160MPH. Her friend was on that forum and told her about the post, needless to say he was fired!

Be careful about what you do/say on the net, because it can get you in real life!

There's definitely something available here. I remember watching a few years ago a news report of a device that monitors all that, but goes a step further. Using different keys (for the various drivers of a household) you could set parametres that the vehicle had to maintain or the engine would be disengaged. Basically, you set a threshold on where the vehicle can go through GPS and a speed limit. If it goes outside the area or too fast, the vehicle shuts down. For the speed thing, it can be restarted, but for the area, it must be brought back into area before it can be turned on.
Clearly designed for overprotective parents. My mother tried to get one for me when I was 16. Only issue was the car was and still is in my name ^_^

Not to be a complete pessimist, but how do we know this isn't a stunt from Roadhawk to garner sales? Viral vids are great for this sort of thing....

If it is, they must have balls like footballs to have sent the video to The Dibble

"West Mercia police confirmed they are investigating the incident. The owner of the garage said he had seen the video but refused to comment."
