You're right.

I say we all vote against these capitalist pig oil companies and seize government regulated control.

That way our energy prices will go up to European levels at three times higher than $3.00 a gallon due to taxation instead.

YEAH!!! That's the answer!!!

Let's all cheer for socialist reform!

I never said that's the answer, I was just saying the reason for high prices is not that it is supplied to us by foreign countries. I for one like that it's private and don't complain about gas prices, but I'm just saying that people have nobody to blame but themselves if they think the gas prices are too high. It's econ 101, if you don't like the price, buy less of it.

I should also add that we get 70% of our oil from sources other than the middle east, so talking about getting rid of middle east dependance is pretty friggin stupid.

I never suggested that you believed my sarcastic post was the answer.

I was just catapulting off of your comment and adding a further talking point.

That's all.

I'll second that.....Though, considering it's only 30% reliance, we should make strides to rid our dependance but that opens another can of worms.

No, just the tobacco companies that are killing over 1,000 American PER day - and use their assets to defray the cost of gasoline back down where it was prior-BOY George II. Who remembers $0.98/gal?

Yeah, itz like we got the European-level gas prices without the rational social polices.

People choose to smoke, they should not, I choose not to. Tobacco is a legal product subsidised by the US Govt., why has the FDA not regulated it as a drug? I don't like tobacco companies but people need to take personal responsibilitiy for thier actions. Mcdonalds is responsible for heart disease and Busch is responsible for drunk drivers and Cirrhosis of the liver. The states used the ridiculous tobaccoo settlement (after paying the lawyers billions) to balance thier budgets and add to thier general funds, not applying it to the health care costs of smokers which is what it was intended for, what a farce.

Back on point, this gas crisis is a result of 35 years of poor leadership, planning and vision. We should have converted to clean burning alcohol or CNG 20 years ago, before you say it, I know it takes more BTU to produce alcohol than the alcohol yields. With technology and economies of scale costs will come down and that issue put to bed. All the money put into the space shuttle program should have gone for this cause, who cares if there is a space station or not, will that impact the average guy on the street?

Actually I boil it down to something even more fundamental. Had humans the common sense not to prolifically breed more and more users of resources, food, etc. there would be no issues from the get go. For instance...everybody and their brother had to have kids after WWII...hence the 'baby boom'...I would truly like to know how many of them considered the cumulative effects, demand for good and services, economic burdens of paying for those less capable of footing the bill, a quickly growing and aging population only 30+ years later, etc.

How many other animal forms are so adept at multiplying and destroying their own environments, WHILE screwing each other for a percentage?

In all delivery rooms, they should have posted signs for decades now...

I agree but this requires people to act in a thoughtful and responsible manner and going back to ancient biblical times they have failed to do so over and over again. This is where leadership can make a difference where people are known to fail yet leadership is lacking. My dad attended a FEMA meeting after Isabelle, he said after 30 min he was sick of the canned scripted answers from people who did not have a clue. Dad worked for the Fed Govt for 41 years and said about 1 in 50 were sharp, the rest go through the motions getting by without good problem solving or useful analytical skills, upper level included. Leadership on many levels is sorely lacking.
