Three Counties in one trip

I had the pleasure today of doing a 75 mile trip from Cumbria, into Lancashire, through North Yorkshire and then back to Cumbria.

I stopped briefly in Morecambe to take in some sea air
the body of water that you can see is Morecambe Bay where 23 Chinese cocklers drowned a couple of years ago in tragic circumstances. The hills in the background are above Grange Over Sands.

I then drove from Lancaster up the Lune Valley (an area that features strongly in books by Zoe Sharp - a fantastic author), travelling via Wray (home of the Wray Scarecrow Festival) and I ended up in Bentham where The Ingleton Gingerbread Company produce some of the nicest cakes you could ever want to try.

From there it was a quick stopoff at the world famous Devils Bridge Bacon Buttie van (just for you Belmont) At Kirkby Lonsdale where Arnie enjoyed a much deserved Bacon & Egg buttie with brown sauce, before heading home.

And yes it was bloody cold, and yes Arnie could do with a wash.

Start to finish 75 miles and from refuelling before and at the end I can tell you that Arnie is doing 35.5 MPG.

Cheerio

Mr Murphy I do hope Arnie wasn't forced to endure your Bacon and Egg buttie! The poor fellow is barely a week old! This can't be considered nutrionally correct for such a young chap. With all the excercise he's been getting though i'm sure he'll work it off.

I take it 35.5 is converted into proper gallons rather than these funny little ones our US friends talk of?

Indeed Mr Belmont

it was 35.5 miles to our fine UK Imperial gallon (4.545 lts or 8 pints in old money).

& of course the bacon and egg buttie was for Arnie as Mrs Cat would be most verily dead unchuffed if she found out that it was for me.

MTC

p.s. the evic MPG said 31.8 which I suspect is in tiddly US gallons, which would convert into about 38 of our rufty tufty butch UK mpg. The 35.5 is from full tank click off to full tank click off divided by miles done. I suspect the true MPG is somewhere between 35.5 & 38 (probably closer to 35.5 than 38).

Mrs. Belmont has similar opinion on the use of Greasy spoons! It is a pleasure i generally partake of in her abscence.

35.5 Properly measured, real MPG! you can't ask for much more than that. From experience witht the CRD, you aint seen nothin yet! Our Grand Cherokee went from great, to wonderful and on to AWESOME with the addition of 5000 miles! Fuel economy aside, the power was noticably improved after a decent running in period.

I hope you wiped Arnies chin after feeding him that funny brown sauce business you fellows from the other side of the wall thrive on!

I just saw an old episode of 2 Fat Ladies and I swear the place they had a bacon buttie was this exact same place as in your pictures! I'll see if I can catch it with TIVO to see the location again. But the bridge and food place looked identical. Now that is a wild coincidence! By the way MTC- I really enjoy reading your road adventures with Arnie- he is a beautiful specimen- thanks!!
