Guess what was going through my mind ?

I'd just come towards the end of the A5074 on the Lyth Valley when I encountered this . How many smiles per mile can I get out of this strech was one of them. The Lyth Valley is renowned as being a particularly fine (if relatively short) bikers road. It is the source of Lyth Valley Damsons which have an excellant reputation for use in jams, chutneys, pies, wine, gin & beer.
The Masons Arms at Strawberry Bank in the Lyth Valley is a VERY, VERY good place to try a glass or three of any of the Damson drinks.

Arnie & I then went for a quick spin to E.S Hartleys at Ings (Chrysler dealer) to drop some docs. This is the picture I wanted to get on the day I picked Arnie up. Sadly the weather was pants then, but today is a different story.

Cheerio

If I saw a long, clear... straight like that, I doubt I would "stop" to take a picture! Rather it would be foot to the floor for a little burst of WOT! That's a great second picture! Just beautiful with the shadows and colors... but... YOU DRIVE A BENTLEY?!!!!! j/k

You're all very cruel to a fat cat , capitalist, customer ripping off, wannabe Bentley driving.

My actual thought was, if anyone comes around the corner, they'll probably have just enough time to say "what's that dickhead doing in the middle of the road" before making me their new bonnet mascot.

The luuuvvvveeerrly straight bit is just after some luvvvveeeerrrlly twisty bits which give me a smile every time I drive the road.

Hi Riddler, I've never seen it featured on his programme, but I am sure that he really would enjoy it.

One of his favourite roads is only a few miles away from me though. That road is the B6255 that goes from Hawes (pronounced whores) in North Yorkshire. Hawes is the home of Wensleydale Dairies the makers of the real Wensleydale cheese that is loved by Wallace & Gromit and is in the Yorkshire Dales National Park it is only a few miles away from where All Creatures Great And Small was filmed (mostly at Askrigg 7 miles away) and more recently where Calender Girls was filmed. Itis a beautiful unspoilt little place.

The road is only about 20 miles long but is a fantastic blend of fast straights, sharp corners, sweeping bends, hills, flats, hump backs and good road surface. It is also relatively quiet during the week (at weekends it is a popular biker road) and the police seem to not to bother to much about "ahem" enthusiastic driving. It is a road more suited to a sports car than a 2 ton saloon car, but it is still a nice old run out.

Ingleton at t'other end is a nice place to explore as well, if you enjoy quiet things to do.

From Ingleton it's a 20 mile (high speed, twisty, underused, good A Road - you get my drift) run to Kendal
the Gateway To The Lake District.
