I had to do a (quickish) run to the South Coast of England this weekend that has resuted in 700 mile going on Arnie and the value of BP's shares going up because of the fuel that I had to buy.
A couple of things of note. I am very much "Old School" when it comes to running in a car (especially a diesel) and I'v kept Arnie down to 3000 rpm for the first 1000 miles. By happy coincidene het hit 1005 miles as we stopped at the toll booth on the M6 (toll) at Birmingham, so I had for the first time the pleasure of taking Arnie to 3500 rpm - woooooooooowwwwwwww. Bloody hell he moves well for a big lad. Oh Happy Days are here again.
Also with the extra miles he is loosening up really well and is driving better and better.
If anyones interested, over a 700 mile round trip (85mph cruise on Motorways) and 50 miles of rural/B roads I got 34 MPG.
It looks like I have another South Coast trip coming up soon which will take me over 2000 miles, so I'll be able to tell you what 4000 rpm feels like.

Hi there MTC..
That's an impressive MPG at 1500 miles and will probably be bettered when fully run in. Is there an easy way to convert the US / IMP MPG or do you just rely on the tried and tested method of dividing your mileage by litres / galls used etc?
BTW there is an outstanding response required from you re my perenial 'Help!-T-Rex Mesh Grilles' thread in the External Visual Mods forum. In brief there are two main types of winged emblem available for the grille viz.12 1/2 inches & 17 1/2 inches. Just wondered which one you went for before I finalise my ordering?

Ha, Murphy my dear fellow, how are you? Glad to hear that I am not the last bastian of proper running in! Give young Arnie another 1000 miles and he'll be off like a terrier with a hot mustard poultice on his jacksie!
I'm sure i've mentioned before that my CRD experience from the Grand Cherokee leads me to believe that the best is yet to come. Please do let Mrs Murphy in on the secret that the same surely cannot be said for you old fellow!
I recently had to make a trip through your lovely land and had the pleasure of trying out this new M6 toll business. I must say, the best spent £2 in the whole journey! And talk about a home from home for Arnie. No Jam butties, No Traffic and No cameras! Purrrrfect.
Hey UK gang, a bit of trivia for you on the Aussie spec 300C, the options on the EVIC on our 300Cs are Metric & US. I assume yours have Metric & UK (or Imperial)??
Pretty dumb they give us "US" as us more mature types spent our early years with Imperial MPG calculations.

Ah Hemi57
are all of your intruments up side down to reflet your position on the globe as well ??
Our EVIC's are specced like yours, Metric & US, but we can get them "flashed" at the dealers to start giving miles per imp gallon, etc.
Perhaps your dealer could do the same for you ? it only took a couple of minutes and made me a happy camper.

That's interesting. Canada switched to the metric system from the Imperial system many years ago. We too have the choice of metric or "US" as you call it. Now I'm wondering if it's US or Imperial gallons it would display for Canadian cars. In my truck if I want to check my fuel economy in the computer, it defaults to xx liters/100km. I find it easier to understand if I convert it to MPG so I just press the button. If it is in fact US gallons, it would throw the whole thing off as the US gallon is smaller. Now I got myself confused trying to explain this.

Rambit confused, surely not.
When I first got Arnie the EVIC was showing taht I was getting about 30 mpg - which I wasn't to happy with. Once I did a fuel tank to fuel tank measurement and did the maths, it was confirmed to me that the EVIC was doing titchy l'al US gallons rather than our more manly UK version.
Now that the computers been flashed to read Imperial gallons, I'm pleased to say that my computer and fuelling system confirm that I'm getting 36.2 miles per imp gallon of diesel.
Murph, what? upside down instruments are not the problem. The issue is we have to keep emptying our fuel tanks as the fuel flows backwards from our engines into the tank.

nice one.
do you have really sticky tyres to compensate for driving upside down as well ?

We here in North America have the convenience of stepping out of our 300s and pumping up on the same side....unlike you gentlemen that need to walk around for a short walk (remember our cars have a 120 " wheelbase)....curious - are most of your petrol/gas stations self serve ??
continue to enjoy your new rides !!
