300C production in China comes down to...

It is sad to learn that the production of 300c in China had come down from 348 in Jan, 152 in Feb, 132 in Mar, and one month before the news of Daimler/Chrysler seperation, ZERO in April. Mercedes/German link is definitely a selling point in such market. Don't know if they can ever recover from such a blow.

A buddy living in Shanghai told me that they are going for about $70k USD by my memory.
I would never own a car this big in China. They are there, but people buy H2's here in the USA too...

A Smart car is big in China. There is no place to park a bike in Shanghai

Unlike other countries, 300C or other large cars' owners in China are normally rear seat passengers and hire a chauffeur to do the job. So luxury back there is a must and parking is not their problem.

Sad to see the sale of 300c in China came down from 1439 in Dec 06 to only 5 in Apr 07. Funny though the production is very much in line with unit sold. Some say the drop is not because of the divorce but a shortage of local parts supply which are needed in order to classified the car as local built to avoid high tax. May be made in China parts can't pass their test or something. Seeing the production number drop as well make this looks possible. They indeed nearly sold out all their 300c stocks.

month made sold
11-2006 884 749
12-2006 1594 1439
01-2007 348 577
02-2007 152 188
03-2007 132 139
04-2007 0 5
