HEMI57 (Aussie on Vacation) coming to your area

Hey everyone up there in the Pacific Northwest. My wife and I will be heading up your way early October for our annual holiday (vacation). As usual for us we will be on a roadtrip, coming up through Utah and on up to Vancouver. then heading south on the coast roads or nearby Interstate Highway.

What do you expect the weather to be like at that time of the year?

Any events going on?

John, I remember just missing you in Chicago/Columbus last year, time flies. The Pac Northwest is said to be beautiful ( I have never been there) and plan on rain with cool temps.

Mark, yeah Chicago last year. Your mob took all the hotel rooms and made us rework our intinerary

I guess the question is, "how cool?". I would be happy as long as if it is above 60 degrees, but prefer it to be warmer.

Having lived on Vancouver Island for 7 years, you can almost guarantee you'll see plenty of drizzly rain on the Lower Mainland of BC that time of year and it starts to get a little cool. Nothing more demolalizing than rain 8 months a year. You should be fine with fall jackets as it never gets that cold there, just damp.

I just realized, there's 2 Vancouver's, Vancouver, Washington and Vancouver, British Columbia...haha. Either way it's about the same.

Hey Hemi57,

Rambit nailed it. 80% chance of cool, wet weather. HOWEVER, September is known for some of the best weather in the Pacific NW and early October is ALMOST September, right? (Pollyanna here!).

What cities are you going to be visiting?

UNDER/OVER rated travel items:
Over - Umbrella
Under - wide brim hat

Over - Trench coat/rain jacket
Under - Columbia Sportswear shell

Over - Rain boots
Under - Hiking boots

Over - Old windshield wipers
Under - RainX

Over - Faux micro-beers (i.e. Fat Tire, Sam Adams, etc.)
Under - Local beers

Over - Vegetarian restaurants
Under - Seafood dinners

Have a great time and let me know what cities you'll be in (and timing) and if I hear of events, I'll drop you a PM.

Scott

Thanks kings11, a great round-up of the area's environment and culture

We are in Vancouver Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th October, then move down to Seattle Friday and Saturday.

My wife has done the intinerary so I am not sure the detail leading up to Vancouver or beyond Seattle other than we are in San Francisco Wednesday 11th and Thurday 12th October. We are expecting that we might make up some time and arrive in San Francisco a day or two earlier.

Watch out for a Towncar (courtesy of Hertz) hurtling around your roads.

Hey H57....

i'm sure you and your wife will really enjoy visiting Vancouver BC....we have alot to see and do in our beautiful city.....the weather will be cooler than what we experienced last month...averages should be around 55-65F....you may get lucky and experience some dry/sunny weather or it could rain (November is usually our wettest month)....however for the record Vancouver (and Seattle for that matter) receives less rain in a year than cities like Chicago and New York.....the beginning of October signals the start of the new NHL hockey season....but it is also the time where you will see the fall/autumn colours....if you are in town on the 4th and 5th i can possibly offer you a tour if you and your wife would like (in my Charger SRT8) of Vancouver with such sights as Stanley Park,Granville Island,Gastown and Steveston Village.....i can show you my Vancouver from a local's perspective....i'll check my work schedule for that week and let you know (i'll PM you with details)
