LOL I GIVE UP. PEOPLE JUST DON"T UNDERSTAND. I guess you are right I just gave my resignation after seven years. Thanks you for opening my eyes, because I have not had a clue for the last seven years. I have not known what holdback margins and profit margins are and how to figure any of these. I forgot that the customer is always right and I know nothing. Not a direct flame. But it ticks me off when people are led down the wrong road. All I gave was a example of how it works. As far as edmunds goes I did not slam them. Do I agree with them all the time, NO they tend to put up false information.

The main point here is to let consumer know that dealers get holdback regardless of selling price and we have learned (from you) that dealers actually get more money back on a EP purchase. Thanks.
But realize when the dealer sells for EP, that is the max they will make. They have to sell it at that price. Whereas the holdback is in addition to any money they can make on the sale. Also, realize that if the car is sitting on the lot for any length of time, the dealer has to pay for that too.

Hey Guys, we are all learning and I am grateful for the information and insight provided by redwinger. I am! I learned that holdback is not paid on EP sales and I conceded that fact early. However, I was still "flamed" when I was told that I don't have a clue when the only fact I posted was that Holdback was about 3% of MSRP for Linus66.

The numbers impress me... Here are the numbers on the sale of the car to me at EP. I ordered a 2005 300c fully loaded with all but cold weather package. My numbers look like this accourding to my printout. I tried to alternate colors to make it a little more legible in the post.

MSRP $38,585
Invoice $36,282
FFP $35,919
EP $34,638
HB $ 1,139

$36,282 Invoice
-$ 1,139 Hold Back

$35,143 Dealer Cost of Vehicle

The car was sold to me at EP Cost so the dealer looses $505 on the car

$35,143 Dealer Cost
-$34,638 Sale Price
$ 505 Loss

Now the dealer will get back 6% of the EP of 34,638

$34,638 Sale Price
*.06
$ 2,078.28 Profit

This will net the dealer a total of 1578.28

$2,078.28
-$ 505.00
$1,573.28 Net

Now I don't know how the following discounts will affect the pricing structure. I'm getting 1000 for customer loyalty and 1000 for chrysler finacial which brings me to a cost of..

$34,638 EP Sale Price
-$ 1,000 Customer Loyalty
-$ 1,000 Chrysler Financial

$32,638 Is My total price

Not bad when others around me are paying $43,000 for the same car

Thanks to all

I have been monitoring this thread with much enjoyment. Lets try not to get too agressive.

My gratitude also extends to Sayhmi who provided a concise synposis of the overall pricing and dealer profits.

If the dialogue continues, I will remain loyal to the thread.

sayhmi, yes my man, you got a great deal! Especially with the overlapping Loyalty and Finance rebates. That is unheard of. Congrats. Now when will you see that Hemi? The wait is on.

What are the rules for customer loyalty? My dealer says it applies only to lease. Since I haven't received my 300C (ordered April 17) would it be within the rules or unethical to buy a chrysler product for $100 or so to save $1000 on the final purchase?
