Nav Sytem Upgrade

Ok...So I am thinking that not getting the Nav system might have been a mistake. First off anyone that has the nav system please let me know what you think? Do you use it? Are there other things besides the nav that makes it worthwhile? I haven't been able to even see one so it's hard for me to justify the nearly 2k upgrade.

Second, if this is something that I want to get in the future how hard is a swap out? Will I miss out on features by not having it installed from the factory?

Any info or insight you guys have would be greatly appreciated.

I didn't want to spend the $2k on the nav/sound group II either. But the 300c the dealer had w/o the nav had the dark grey interior and I wanted the light. The light interior one had the Nav. Turns out it lots of fun and I've actually used it a couple of times in the first two weeks for directions. It's better than trying to read a printout from mapquest while you're driving!

If you get the rest of the toys - like U-connect - the nav computer monitor adds additional functionality - like displaying the phone number of the incoming call (also displayed on the EVIC, but your passenger's can read that).

Overall, the unit is on average with other nav units in the market as far as the "nav" features. It is snappier than some of the other units my friends have. The refresh rate is also pretty good.

I have the Nav and it broke at 4000 miles. 1200 miles later I'm waiting on a replacement from the dealer.

If I install a used Nav unit and it breaks....would the dealer know if it wasn't stock if I took my car in under the factory warranty? Do they check?

Your VIN indicates what equipment was OEM when the car was delivered, so yes, they will know.

But do you think they would take the time to check or just would fix it assuming it came with the car. If it's the same system that comes with the 300's, would they even think of checking?

If you buy a Nav from the dealer, would they honor it then for the warranty period or just give you a standard warranty like a year in parts and labor?

Yes, checking the VIN is standing operating procedure because the work order is entered into the computer which requires that number. It will be checked automatically.

The warranty periods will be guarded jealously because it means money to DC and their dealers. Just don't count on getting anything for free.

I bought a unit the dealer installed it. They updated my record to reflect this and it is now part of my warrenty. Hey these units can't be much older than our cars.

Yes, you are correct. However, the OEM warranty is for a longer period of time than the after market purchase. Even with Mopar, that warranty appears to be for only one year.

And that is the problem.
