Wink To Tune or NOT to Tune.....

My 300C is my first V8 in 13 years. My last V8 was my 1995 Olds 442 and that was a pooch!
I want to ask some questions about "tuning" these cars.
I want to state first and foremost that I have no intentions whatsoever of racing this car. I admit that I like to play with the throttle a little bit but I believe I am trying to relive my youth!
I am curious if its worth buying a tuner if I do not plan to race.
I am curious about the advantages of buying one.
I am curious WHAT/WHICH to buy.
List could go on and on but I will start with that.

Now as for mods my car really doesn't have much other than CAI...Airaid (huge filter!)
Corsa cat back exhaust..at least that's what my mechanic friend says.
That's about it. I know I have read that a 180 thermostat is a wise mod IF a tune is planned.
From reading different posts on this forum it seems as though I have the two major ones already...next step being to tune it.

My daughters keep asking me what I want for Christmas and I really have no idea until I was thinking about this. A gift card toward a tuner could be an idea???

Thoughts? Suggestions? Advice? Anything at all.......

Yes, buy a tuner even if you don't plan to race. Especially since you already have an intake and catback. As far as which one to buy, its a no brainer - Diablosport. The Predator is their most common, but it's older and no longer supported. So you can get their InTune or Trinity. They basically have the same tuning abilities, but the Trinity has some added in car toys to play with. Love my Trinity!

Advantages? Many. Read up on Diablosports site. In short, it will really wake up your car. No more sluggish shifts, better throttle response, etc. And they come with built in "canned" tunes - which is all I have ever used, aside from some parameter adjustments. If you do ever want to go bigger, you can use it to start data logging and getting custom CMR tunes done.

As far as the 180 tstat, its a quick easy cheap upgrade. These engines tend to get heatsoaked, so keeping the operating temperature down is a good thing. You can replace your stock tstat with a 180 (I use a Jet 180) and then use the tuner to adjust your fan settings so that they will kick on at a lower temperature and take advantage of the lower tstat.

In the end, you have a CAI and catback. Spend the $20 on a tstat and decide if you want an InTune or Trinity. Then ask Santa for it. When it arrives, plug it in and have some fun. You will not regret it - guaranteed.

Agree^^

I just bought a used diablosport on eBay. Should have it tomorrow. I will post what I notice (From this novices's viewpoint)!

I added a K & N cai and it sounds awesome. Also a bit more responsive. But the sound is boss!

The tuner should be everyones first mod for building a motor to race with or a daily driver. Better shifting gas mileage and having the ability to read and erase trouble codes is a great deal! As Fisch stated about getting the 180 Stat as well! I think 100% of diablosport tuner owners will agree a tuner is a must for every 300c! Make sure you buy a new model as stated above because there are no more updates available for the older model.

The benefits of a tuner are:

1. More efficient operation.
2. Optimum air/fuel ratio.
3. Improved throttle response.
4. Firmer shifts.
5. Fan settings can be changed.

Results of those improvements:

1. Better mileage.
2. No detonation or knock to pull down the performance.
3. Car feels responsive, ready to move when you say to move, not when it feels like it. Much more confidence when driving.
4. Firmer shifts result from higher line pressures in the transmission. Crisper, firmer shifts mean the transmission is not slipping as much, thereby it is running cooler. Heat kills transmissions.
5. A cooler running engine is more efficient, makes better power and lasts longer.

Get a catch can too!

Ya'll forgot the BEST benefit... reduced "nanny" interference from ESP system.

The Diablosport tuner is what any 300 owner should buy FIRST!

I am now convinced to order a Tuner BUT....since this is my first Tuner is it really necessary to buy the Trinity Tuner? $600 seems a little steep for someone that does not plan to tune it far enough to race.
I understand I could research this answer myself but I would much rather hear it from "experienced" people like you.
