Not driving the 300c for 3-4 months? Good idea? Bad idea?

Im still waiting for my 300C to arrive which will be in Oct and once it does arrive I was thinking about cutting the insurance and not renewing it until next year around Feb or March. One reason is I have a winter car so I dont see any reason why I should pull out the 300c. My question is, if I drive the car for let's say 500 km's and then cut the insurance and keep the car in the garage for 3-4 months will it be ok? What I mean by "will it be ok" is will I run into any problems because I didnt break the car in? I know it sounds like a stupid question but i've heard people say that you should break in the car then cut the insurance so im just wondering if it would really make that big a difference. Most cars on the dealer lots are brand new and on the lot for months so I don't see a big deal.

It appears to me that essentially that would be putting your car into temporary storage. IMO, it should be froken in before subjecting it to that kind of treatment. Generally, storage of a car is hard on it. Lots of concerns here, just off the top of my head --

In or outdoors? Covered or not? Heated area or not? Available to start at least weekly? Rotate (just turn them to avoid flatspotting) the wheels/TIRES monthly or so? Humidity control (thinking of your interior here, mostly)?

I'm sure there are other concerns; dunno if I'd ever want to do that to a brand new car unless absolutely necessary -- like buying it and being deployed overseas, etc.

WOW. Wouldn't like to make that decision. Luck to you.

Not sure about the 'newness' factor, but here is some additional reading for items you may not have considered...

Car storage

Lets go through the situation.
Car arrives and is unloaded from the truck. Driven and then sits on the lot for three months. Sounds like about 300,000 other cars waiting to be sold on the dealers lot. Did you ever worry about this when you bought a new car in March? We should put it in perspictive. Besides you can go out and run it once a week, which might be more than they do!

Cars just don't sit on dealers' lots anywhere I have ever lived. They are constantly moving them -- for several reasons -- to ensure that they start, to check for problems such as deflated tires, and a myriad of other things. And in the case of a dealer, his responsibility is to keep the car ready for sale, irrespective as to how long it takes to move it.

Temporary storage is a different breed of cat.

Thanks guys for the input. If I do put the car in storage it'll be in my Garage and the weather around here is very mild. I have done this with my other cars in the past like my S430 Mercedes and never ran into problems. I guess if I start it once a week and take around the block it should be fine. One thing that is interesting is when I purchased a BMW for my wife it was on the lot for about 7 months and the car gave us alot of problems. It was brand new but it had tons of minor problems. When we traded it in to another BMW dealer they told us that cars that sit on the lot for a long period of time tend to run into problems thats why its better to order directly from the factory. I found it odd but I guess it makes sense in a way.

Very few "C's" are sitting for any length of time on dealer's lots nowadays. ;^))

Mileshoover you live in a warm climate. Come to upstate NY in the winter months. Those cars are started to be moved when they do snow clean up. Started run for a few minutes and moved. If a car hasn't sold in 3-4 months that all the activity it gets. Trust me. Not a lot different then him storing it and starting it once a week.

LOL...you're high

and not on anything that isn't Title 21 approved....why would anyone even think for a second that Miles isn't a SUPERModerator for a reason!? Stellar job in the "Let 'em have it without even trying to!" department....you don't have to try anything if you really possess whatever it is that you are thinking is fooling guys like him....and me, if I do say so myself.

Call me Dr. Hoover.....we should start a practice together even if I don't have a JD. Speaking of which....do you need a JD from and accredited school of law to be a judge????? Answer when we return in two and two.

HiMiHemiMD, whaaat???? Sorry but you have lost me a bit there. Must be "MD" jargon?

The point I wanted to add to the original thread subject is, be wary of only running the engine for a short time as the moisture will sit in the exhaust system and eat it away. You need to run the car for long enough to warm the whole system up so the moisture evaporates. Also make sure the Air is run regularly to circulate the gas or the seals will shrink and you will loose all gas.
