There is no one answer, service departments vary greatly. I would say if yours see's a mod and claims it will void your warranty then you probably should look for a different one. I personally dont have any problem with mods, they show enthusiasm for the car which is good for us. Now, poorly done butcher mods will get my attention (most common with stereo hack jobs) but I wont tell anyone their warranty is void. When a car comes in with a problem and I trace it to the mod then I will let the Service Manager know and he makes the call on warranty coverage. Usually just that issue is affected, you will pay for that repair but your warranty will still be intact unless you have done something really crazy. Ive started the paperwork for warranty restriction more for neglect and accident damage, especially submersion damage, I can only remember one for a performance mod. That case was nitrous and he had actually melted the pistons.
Good write up. You are a service person who obviously knows the law and uses common sense. Entire warranties are seldom voided. Repairs that are cause by mods are handled on a case by case basis. Common sense prevails...if you go crazy with nitrous or superchargers don't expect DC to pay for repairs. On the other hand, CAI's and exahusts would be considered safe IMO. Mopar does make an aftermarket CAI and cat back.

I've been fortunate to find a GREAT service dept. at West Oaks Chrysler Dodge. I have about $12K in mods (just about everything but a stroker, cam or SC) and they have never given me a problem. In fact many or the service guys own our cars and mod them, so they empathize completely. A couple of weeks back I was experiencing some nasty backfiring and after about a day and a half of looking it was determined to be a broken ignition coil, which they honestly felt happened during one of the mod installs. The charge to me was labor only. No grief, no hassles, just great service, great work (the car runs great) and continued great experiences at that dealership.
When I had my '02 Mustang GT, the Ford service advisor told me anything bolted directly to the engine (Underdrive Pulleys, S/C, Turbo, headers, etc) would void my warranty. Any thing else was ok. He even stated that my superchip was ok as long as I reset my pcm to stock before bringing it in. I asked my service advisor at the Chrysler dealership the same questions and he gave me the same answers. So it looks like my future Jetchip Stage 1 and CAI mods will be ok.
i leased my car for 3 years and 36K miles but ive already added some mods such as: K&N aircharger JBA EXHAUST JBA HIGHFLOW CATS airrad throttle body spacer and on order is diablo tuner and jba headers, but im plannin on returning it all back to stock before i turn it in, DOES ANYONE THINK ILL HAVE A PROBLEM???? Please let me know cause i didnt think it would be a problem but after reading this thread....
Try to find someone at the dealer in service that is willing to work with you and you will be fine, If the advisor knows how to work it, it is a win, win situation. The advispr get's paid and your car get's fixed. Find an advisor you can trust!
Obviously you are either an advisor or Asm. I have been in service for Chrysler/Dodge for the last 20 years and am still in this business. You are completely correct it is a case by case and the warranty is as good as the advisor. I retain a strong customer base on treating each customer on a case by case, I usually don't have much problem, cause I do know how to work the warranty, sometimes what the manufacture doesn't know doesn't hurt them.
A lease has no bearing on waranty. Put it back to stock and or as close as you can when you turn it in. You will lose any Mods. you leave on when turning in at end of lease.
