Sluggish performance and 89 octane gas

Hey everyone,

I have a 300C with about 4500 miles. I feel that the car has become quite sluggish over the last 1,000 miles or so. I brought it into my 5 star Chrysler for a check up. The tech said that he ran it with the diagnostic equipment attached and that the computer said the gas was not burning properly but did not really have an answer as to why this is happening. They called the Chrylser tech line and they said that I should use at least 91 octane gas, not 89 as stated in the owners manual. They also said that an addendum to the manual is scheduled to be sent out stating this as well. I have read the other posts regarding octane rating and everyone else seems to be satisfied with their performance on 89. I was just wondering if anyone else was experiencing similar sluggish performance or had any ideas as to what the problem could be.

Thanks!

Could it be a clogged/collapsed fuel filter?

I have used 87 octane for 3500 miles and have no performance issues. Runs great pulls strong. Did have a slight surge when crusing and thought it might be when dropping to 4 cyl or torque converter lockup. Took to dealer, and they loaded upgraded software. Work order states Engine Performance Enhancements TSB 18-021-01 Rev.A . No more surging and appears to have uped the gas mileage some and still pulls just as strong if not a little better. 300c built 7/04

1500 miles and never done WOT. Never had a reason. 89 octane every tank and it has never felt sluggish but I did notice on one trip I got better mileage using Chevron gas instead of Fast Lane gas I usually put in it.

I use Wal Mart 89 exclusively except on road trips, no sluggishness, Hardly ever need to go WOT since it is so responsive but when I do no problems.

No problems with 89 octane here - pulls like a freight train.

Wow so many different Gas stations...

Round these parts (DC Area) we only have Mobils, Shells, and the occasional Chevron.
