K & N drop in filter

I was wondering if you guys have noticed any difference in mpg and/or performance after adding a K & N drop in air filter to your 300C. I was thinking about replacing my factory filter with a K & N filter but I've heard people say that they have not seen any improvement and their mpg's actually decreased. Is this true?

I have used a K & N drop in filter in other cars, but not my 300C. I could measure no improvement in performance or fuel economy in my '87 Firebird Formula or my '90 Bronco--which is why I haven't installed one in the 300. True, you do not have to change them but you do have to clean and oil them, and they do NOT filter as well as a top quality paper filter will ( i.e. Wix or NapaGold ). I'm sticking with the good 'ol paper filter. I've got 3800 miles on my car and the original is hardly even noticibly dirty, will probably change it at 6k or 8k miles.

I installed the K&N drop in filter and noticed a slight MPG improvement. I average 17 MPG in hilly W. PA. I used one in my "93" Ram 1500 5.9 and when I traded it in after 5 years, the engine was as good as when it was new. The oil doesn't look any dirtier with the K&N than when I used the stock filter.

I have to agree, I had a K&N in each of my last three vehicles and I will not be putting one on my 300C. I did not see any improvement in performance or mileage. The only difference is that it sounded good when you floored the throttle. In the long run I really don't think you save any money by getting a K&N or any other cotton/foam filter. I have to second going with a quality filter like a Wix or Napa Gold.

I too,have the dropin K&N filter,works fair I'd say.
After reading about different filters,I'm switching to the "TrueFlow" Foam filter. Costs a little more,I'm told, but is supposed to work a whole lot better.
JMO..for what's it's worth..lol

Everything with the K&N drop in is gonna be a small gain (ie mpg, power).

I just switched from a K and N to a True Flow. So far, I don't see any difference. I am sure they are both lower restriction than stock, but probably not noticeable except maybe at WOT. The True Flow is suppose to filter out finer particles without any loss of airflow.

Thanks I'll probably pass on the drop-in air filter, I may just jump straight to the air-intake system

I just put the cai system on my hemi, it sounds like a 427 vette with 2-4 barrell carbs. when you shower down on it. The exhaust has a much more muscular tone with the resonators deleted with 3.5 inch tips.
