Question New Exhaust, Computer need to be Reset?

Hi all:

I just installed the exhaust system that I got from for a really good price ($).

The instructions state to do the "unhook the battery thing" to allow the computer to reset itself to the new exhaust.

Is this necessary, and if so, why? (Inquiring minds want to know!)

Thanks!

jimt

In my opinion it is not needed. The pcm is continually adapting to current conditions. The only thing this will do is reset the adaptive memory. Very short term you may feel a change (and that is a slight may). It doesn't take long for the computer to start rebuilding the cells.

Well when I installed my exhaust, I didnt unhook the battery, but after the install I removed fuse 11 for about 20 minutes.
That fuse allows for the computer to reset rather than pulling the battery cable and reseting everything.

FYI,
every time I had my car at Magnaflow and they were "wrenching it"...
they never took the battery terminals off...
just an FYI...
Sincerely,
