Early Build Gets The SC "5"

Just got back from the dealer and had them update my early build (07/04) Mag RT with TSB 18-031-04A, Driveability Improvements, and TSB 21-009-04Transmission Control Module Initialize. This brought the software for the ECM and TCM up to the most current versions, as required by Superchips. The actual upgrade took them about 2 hours, but was done under warantee...so no cost to me. I only noticed a slight improvement over the way it was previously though. I then took it home and loaded the SC 91 tune, and went for a ride. It definitely works better, shifts better and I now have the early build elusive "5". The SC tuner now works flawlessly, and I just checked and saw there were two more new software upgrades. Anyone know what they are? Should I leave well enough alone, or go for it?

Superb!!. I was running it before, but SC and other forum members recommended that the ECM and TCM software be upgraded to the latest versions. My only problem before was soft WOT upshifts. Performance is better, gas mileage is better, MDS comes on easier/sooner and stays on longer, and the in town MDS speed ranges are widened with the SC "raised shift points" selection. For me, it's the best $$$ I've spent so far.

OK, so what *specifically* can we tell the dealer/service writer to get them to do the pcms?

Leave it alone. I updated mine and lost some throttle response. Bummer for me! I'm just waiting for another update to fix this problem. I have to bring mine in for the ECM & TCM updates.

I read the TSB's and told the service writer that my build date was within the specified dates, and it had symptoms of stumble and hesitation when quickly shifting between reverse and drive following engine start-up, rough hot idle after start (intermittant), and soft upshifts (both light and WO throttle). They didn't drive it, just performed the updates.

Just went out driving a little again, and let me say, I love the way the auto-stick works in the "Paddle Hold Gear" mode. Move the lever either way and it upshifts/downshifts firmly and immediately. You can put it in "D" and it works normally, but the best thing is the MDS works 10 times better now, than before. Initial in town mileage is running about 2 mpg higher, so far.

That's funny that you bring up those symptoms on the early build dates. My car is an '06 built 12-05 and the ECM date is 9-05. I have the exact same symptoms in my car as you did. Although my biggest frustration is waiting what seems like an eternity for the car to downshift on a pass. Another problem is that it will only downshift 1 gear no matter what my speed is, even if 2-3 gears seems more appropriate for a pass. Or, if I use the autostick to slow the car down, it could easily take 3-4 seconds before the car will actually downshift. It sounds like the SC will rectify these symptoms from what everybody has been saying. Maybe it's time for my 1st mod.

It sure isn't that way now. It really is almost like a manual transmission. Instant, and firm upshifts/downshifts with the flip of the paddle. If you leave it in Drive it works normally, but if you start using autostick, it stays in the gear selected until you shift it. If you get into...say 4th...and slow down, it will automatically downshift when it feels it needs to, and then you have to manually upshift it again. Seems kinda idiot proof and doesn't appear that it will allow you to bog the engine too much. I'll keep tinkering and eventually learn all the tricks. Lots of fun.
