need some help with CAI

ok

so i added a K&N CAI that i purchased off a fellow member here , he sold it after it was only on his car for 50 miles or so as he did not like the noise ,

my problem is as soon as i installed it i got a check engine light almost right away with in 5 mins .

Also i have an odor of burning oil , My wife drove the car today and says it is not performing as well as it was with out the kit .

Any ideas what is going on here . I follow all the instructions to the letter and every thing is hooked back up

Thanks Alan

There isn't to much that connects to the induction. Did you or the previous owner oil the filter before the install? I've heard of that causing a problem if you get carried away with it but it's generally not a problem.

Disconnect battery and pull your flow censor or whatever it's called from black k&N intake tube and see if there is any oil residue on it.
Clean it , reinstall and connect battery and see what happens.
Happen to me once! Over oiled it

That was my thought as well. He could also have either broken the IAT Sensor or put it in backwards.
