Finally got caught racing!

Came up on a Red late model Mustang Cobra SVT, he had exhaust and who know what else, younger guy early 20's so i'm sure he had other mods.
By the way the '04 SVT Cobra has a 390 HP Supercharged V8!!!! And i'm on 22" rims!!!
We were doing rolling starts from about 50 to about 130.
Sometimes i would be behind him on takeoff. Must of done this about 5 times.
I was taking off from 3rd gear every time.
Every time we punched it i would pass and go around him pretty easily from takeoff.
Finally the road cleared and we didn't have to let off the gas for a while!
I pulled away a few lengths from takeoff like normal but when we got to like 4th gear or so he caught me and started to very slowly inch away from me.
Seems like his car had a little more torque in this range.
But once we got pass that range i would catch him and pass him, not fly by him...but slowly gain ground on him....
Everytime we got to like 120 or so we would slow down....

What do you know...Blue lights behind us!!!!! GULP...
He pulled us both over and i just know he was going to get us for drag racing, which by the way is a felony here in Florida.
It was an undercover FHP!!!
So this big black FHP comes running to my car and gets me out and starts yelling at me...I'm looking up to this guy and mind you i'm 6'2''...
He was sooo pissed!!!
First thing he said was get out you're going to jail!!!
Felony drag racing and misdemeanor reckless driving, not to mention taking posession of my car..Yes, they can take your car from your for drag racing on the street.

To make things short, i was scared as heck!
I started pleading with him telling him i would walk home. I'm sorry, i will never do it again! Anything i could think of...
When i told him i was a teacher (Physical Education Coach), he was like "What"!!! What would you tell your students if they did this? Blah Blah Blah
After several minutes of lecturing he made me stand with my hands on the hot hood of his car.
He came back and said "the only reason i'm not arresting you is because you are a teacher and i respect that", but you are getting a ticket for 102 MPH for $323.50.
He said he was pissed beacause he couldn't arrest the other guy because he didn't arrest me.

Wow! This knocked some sense into me...I'm gonna chill on my racing for a while....It's just not worth it.

Talking in the act...

Life lessons are usually the Best ones or the only ones that really teach us things we later call wisdom. Lucky you talked enough to give him a reason to respect you.

Wow scary stuff man!!! It's stories like these that remind me to drive safe. It's hard when you're 23 and drive an SRT-8, but I've been doing 100+ for too long and getting away with it, if I dont exercise some control my luck will run out.

5 runs at triple digits - you were pushing your luck!

Glad you didn't get arrested though! I'm always scared the other guy might lose control or have unsafe equipment and get hurt. I ususally shut down at 80-100mph. Once it's clear who is quicker, it's over for me.

Sounds to me like maybe a teacher learned a valuable lesson as a result of this incident.
