Who manufactures the stock 203 deg thermostat?

I compared the stock thermsotat (5.7L engine) with a prestone and
the latter looks "cheap" in comparison. There must be a reason why the
stock thermostat (dia 63mm, 203 deg) is more complicated.
WHo makes it? I would like to go to a lower temperature with the same
thermostat design,
Thanks,
Gert

Thank you, Bill, but I'm not sure who makes the stock tstat. It's a high quality tstat, with a great flow rate, but lacks the fail-safe feature of our preferred Robert Shaw 383-170.

Is this Robert Shaw 383-170 a 180 deg thermostat? That's what I would like to go with or is there a 383-180?

Gert

It *is* a nominal 170, Bill, but actually runs at a near-perfect 176 degrees (with a fan mod or a cool day on the open road). Otherwise it will run just as warm as the stock 203.

I recommend it highly, 2000ssnb. It's the only failsafe tstat out there for the LX Hemi that we've found to date. You can read more about it in post #1 here: Alternate thermostats for the LX Hemis

Meister,

thanks for the feedback. I googled Robert-Shaw etc. but nothing relevant
came up - where can you buy this one and under what name?
Gert
