The perfect package

As some of you who read my recent track night post made reference to, a full half second improvement in personal best at the quarter mile implies some serious changes.

To help ensure that these serious changes were the correct ones, I enlisted the assistance of a magician by the name of Matt Monett. Matt, among other things, is the world record holder for the quarter mile in his Dodge Stealth, running the very same Dynamic Racing heads that he sells. Matt is a supporting vendor here at 300cForums (http://www.300cforums.com/forums/per...ight=fastmatt). His assistance was invaluable as I endeavored to improve both the power and the efficiency of my sweet C. Retaining full MDS capability while bringing performance squarely into STR8 territory, perhaps beyond, were the requirements.

Matt suggested the DR stage 2 heads and the Comp Cams stage 1 (260) MDS-supporting cam. See the heads here: http://dynamicracing.com/customer/pr...cat=204&page=1
and the cam here: http://www.compcams.com/Technical/Ca...ctBrochure.pdf
After much study and debate I agreed that Matt's suggestion was the correct one for me. Mopar Performance long-tube headers and free flow cats completed the package.

My impression: The best way to sum up the changes and to describe what it's like to drive my car after adding the heads and cam is simply this: It feels like I'm driving a 3000 pound car. It's more nimble now - it moves through traffic with an easy grace. Acceleration is effortless. It occurs without hesitation or fanfare. Briskly, smoothly and without fanfare *if* I merely nudge the throttle. If I wish to announce my presence, WOT gets the attention of everyone within a large radius of this car, myself included. Racing performance at both the circuit and the quarter mile has been both impressive and flawless. Driveability is superb.

Recommendation: This outstanding head and cam combo deserves a very close look. I would consider it to be a must-do upgrade for the serious performance buff. More power plus greater economy provides a true win-win experience.

Please expound on the "more ecomony" portion of the "more power" combon of words there Meister. Are you saying, no only that you have the greater "ease" in response to the throttle, but also improved fuel mileage?

Oh... and at what total cost would such normal a knave as me enjoin such heads, cam, long tubes and feline backs?

Forsooth be thee hasty in thy reply, lest me think myself left in ancient times!

LOLOLOLOL!!!

WHEW!!!!

Meister buddy....I just got done mowing the lawn a couple hours ago after stewing the whole time about "WTF DID HE DO TO GET THOSE TIMES!!!"

It's all been made clear. Thanks for letting us know and congrats!!!!

You're the man!!!!

I thought I was going crazy but heads/cam...oh no no, I have ALWAYS been the guy to say a 5.7 could perform just as good if not better than a stock SRT8 with some good heads/cam/intake. You just proved it so kudos.

Ahem...I see you changed your sig accordingly because the one I read earlier tonight had "BS" written all over it with the track times you were claiming.

I'd hate for you to think that of yourself, GTL, so here goes: Yes, that's true. Each "power adder" that is truly effective does, indeed, increase your car's total power. With more power one's car works less hard to maintain any given speed. Throttle deflection is reduced and mileage goes up. So far that has remained true for my car - as horse power increased so has the fuel mileage for any given speed. My problem is I'm tempted to frequently remind myself how much more responsive the car has become. One can then take a mileage hit.

1. Glad I could verify the accuracy of your prediction, vvv.

2. Well, so far I've only learned how to post one item at a time on a forum. First was the announcement of the good news, second was the explanation of how that good news came to be, and last was the updating of the sig to match the just-released data.

Meister... mine was but a two-part question. You answered part one. The part following the first was as to the cost of these things, namely heads, cam, shorties and feline posteriers (aka cat backs).

Good deal, Trojan. You won't regret it.

Let me know if I can be of assistance.

Sorry, GTL. PM's 'been ringing off the hook. The thread that introduces these heads is here: 5.7L heads/cam dyno 342 rwhp

Post #22 has a link that takes you to the heads & cam packages. Sub-$2000 is my recollection. I went with the Comp Cams stage 1 cam.

The Mopar Performance long-tube headers are just over $1000, and a mated set of free-flow cats comes with the headers to ensure that you'll not get any CELs from either the headers or the cats.
