Got Beat By 2 Hondas Today.....WTH!!!

Ok,
I was just cruising down the road today in my new 2006 SRT8 Charger.
Well I'm not used to the car yet and have really not jumped on it yet (75MPH Max-So Far).
Anyways I see these two imports coming from behind me, I think they were racing each other. Nobody in front of me, 3 lane highway---PERFECT!!!
Well I thought I'd be smart and wait untill they got closer before I took off. I was going about 45-50mph at the time..
Well they get beside me and I smash the gas,..............HMMMMMMMMMMM!!
The SRT left like a slug, no downshift, felt like it stayed in OD and acceleration was very weak. Very Upset that The SRT did not smoke both of them..
I get to the light and they are laughing at the car, I put it in 1st, turn off ESP and wait for green. Problem...They no longer want to race,,, Anyways I had to drive away in shame, I hope that never happens again....

Welcome to the forums. It sounds like your car isn’t broken in yet if 75 mph is all you’ve had it up to. These cars learn from our driving style, so you need to get out there and tromp on that baby and get it going. As more miles accumulate it does seem to get faster.

Ouch. Don't worry about it. You've come to the right place to spring back up from a defeat.

Please, please do your research on what you need to do to drive your car like you stole it! This is truly embarrassing to have a ricer beat our cars. This should NEVER happen. Go away in shame and never return until you a beat a real car!!!

Just kidding! Welcome and congrats on an awesome car. Make sure you sign up for a SRT Experience that comes near you. It's free and you get to drive the SRT cars balls out on a track!

As long as the engine is warm you will not hurt it by driving it hard. I'm not saying abuse the sh!t out of it but you definitely wont hurt it by sending her to redline and that will actually help seat the piston rings better. Perform your first oil change at 500 miles after you have stretched the engine out - meaning racing it around a little bit - and that will flush out any metal shavings from the cylinder walls that you have smoothed out by spinning the pistons fast. Should be good to go after that!

Hehe, yeah I'm pretty sure they were their peak before or as they passed you. Being that you haven't broken it in yet does make a difference.

First of all welcome to the forum!

Second, you're not giving us enough information to judge what happened.

A.) How fast did you get it up to while racing?
B.) How fast were the Honduh's going as they overtook you? If you were going 45MPH and they were going 65MPH it would take quite a while to catch up with them.
C.) At 45MPH is most definitely would have downshifted and lept. Did you accidentally have it in autostick stuck in 4th or something???
