beaten plenty of neon srt4, but never came up on a caliber.
if the cobra is stock, you have a chance, if not, you probably dont. the terminator cobra is blown, and with a couple cheap mods, it can be fast. but it's still a mustang.
the 427r has 435 hp, 400 tq. so you wont beat it, especially if you're stock. with it stock and an SRT8 lightly modified, it may be close, but power to weight will probably give the 427 the win. i may be wrong though, who knows

A tuned SRT-8 like yours can beat a stock 03/04 Cobra. It's possible against a stock 427R as well. Very tight, close races assuming you're in the powerband and the other driver shifts fast.

that's the one thing I hate about our car...anyone can hang with it at the low RPM ranges. Wish there was a magic bullet fix for that...

I lost to a SRT4 Neon at the track by about a car length once, he was happy after that one giving his friend high fives and such. He ended up having to tow his car home at the end of that night though...and it wasn't because he ran out of gas.

Yes, I've seen cars with turbos break many times. Our SRT8s seem bullet proof, especially when stock or with minor mods. You can crank up the boost and tune an SRT4 Neon to within an inch of its life, but things are going to start to break unless lots of other stuff has been upgraded.

A higher stall torque converter will help nicely.

I raced a '95-'96 Cobra last month at the track, I was running 13.5's and he was running like 15.25. I'm not sure how old of a Cobra your talking about, but I actually lost that race by .13, only because my motor was heat soaked from doing hot laps and I had a crappy light (.22)

That is about what i was asking. My wife is wanting a new car!!!!! So i the plan .. Is three things she has to have a automatic mustang. So roush is my first guess. Or a jeep srt8, Do they make auto cobras?? Whatever happens i get the srt8. The rule in our house is when we get a car it's ours and what we say goes. So she cant say anything about mods.

The '95 Cobra had the 5.0L engine and the '96 Cobra had the 4.6L DOHC modular engine, so they are completely different. I used to own a '97 Cobra, and it had the 4.6L engine. It took lots of practice to launch my Cobra consistently so I can understand how someone without much experience would have trouble at the track with one. I took my Cobra to the track 2 or 3 times before I got pretty good at it. Bone stock, it ran low 14s in perfect conditions. With the Procharger system and some other mods I did, it would run low 13s all day long on street tires, just like my SRT8. I'm not sure what the '95 Cobra was capable of stock with it's 5.0L engine, but I suppose that stock vs. stock the 4.6L one was faster. The next generation Cobra following the N/A 4.6L engine had a supercharger and produced a conservatively rated 390 hp. The new Cobras you can get today have insane amounts of power for a stock production vehicle, especially for their price range. They still suffer from the front-heavy weight distribution which requires special skill to launch them properly though. I saw a sweet Shelby GT500 at the gas station last weekend and the owner gave me a thumbs up as I rumbled by.

OK, just once more I'm going to ask for clarification.... I swear I'm a pretty smart guy, and pretty technical minded as well, but for some reason I just can't wrap my head around what a torque converter does. I'm pretty sure I had the answer, but every time someone posts this I get confused again. Here's where I'm at:

A torque converter spools the RPMs quicker in any given gear. However, if I'm correct, it will only spool quicker if it's under the stall RPM of the converter. i.e., with a 2800 stall converter, if I hit WOT at 2000RPM, it will jump quickly to 2800RPM, then act like it normally does. Correct? If so...not sure how this really helps, as a downshift almost always puts the RPMs at 3500+. Now, if it brought it from 3500 up to 4200 quicker, that would be great, but I don't think that's the case.
