Just tonight me and my buddys decided to go for a bit of a rip in my car (2005 300c)...I just got a intake AFE stage 2 and exhaust SLP loudmouth 1...and I also have a Predator * 91 CAI tune.. so anyways theres Four of us in the car just rippin around and we got on the topic of how Ive never raced anyone on the street. So I get to a light I see a convertiable 350z coupe with some fat rims, He revs his engine and all my friends are like Ca' mon give him a rev back :P...sounded stupid but wth I did it anyways. The light goes green and we turn left heading onto the alex fraser bridge we start merging, I hear him stomp on it and its on... wasn't long until I totally blew past him. I was doing about 160kmh and my friend are like wtf is that comming up behind you, Im like what!?... it got closer and it was a beamer so im like oohh **** here we go... we start going and he cant keep up so im like wtf this is a ricer race to i slow down and let him get beside me and we go again from about 120kmh and again I pulled away no problem... by this time i realized that it was new 7 series and I couldnt believe that I was able to beat it considering that the 7 series is a 100 000 dollar car so im like f*$( this cant be right so we kept goin from a roll and every time i just roasted him so finally he rolled his window down and he was yelling something out his window, so we slowed right down to a stop and hes like "HOLY F*** that thing is fast!" ..."I just race a 300 the other day and beat him, F*** that think is fast" then I told him " Yea I have FOUR people in the car too!" lol.. so then im like ok lets do this from a stop (he had about 1/2 car length ahead of me from the stop) and I yelled " 1 ... 2 ...3" He got a early start and now its on.... we kept the same length for a while then I just started pulling by him with no problem..I totally thought the 7 series would have me on the top end for sure *it has 7 gears!. holy what night and I cant believe I just roasted a 100,000 car, and with four people in my car and only three mods (slp loudmouth 1, predator 91 CAI canned tune and AFE stage 2 intake) ahhhh Im loving it!
So thats two cars blown away in a matter of minutes ...

Nice kill! It's fun to take down more expensive cars, isn't it? The 300C is faster than most of the 7 series, especially the older ones. The 2009 750i runs 0-60 in a little over 5 seconds and the older 745i is slower than that, so I'm not too surprised by the outcome, especially because you have some mods. The 7 series are also very heavy cars, even heavier than our 300C.

Very nice kill....Alex Fraser is a big six lane bridge too!
OK, just once more I'm going to ask for clarification.... I swear I'm a pretty smart guy, and pretty technical minded as well, but for some reason I just can't wrap my head around what a torque converter does. I'm pretty sure I had the answer, but every time someone posts this I get confused again. Here's where I'm at:
A torque converter spools the RPMs quicker in any given gear. However, if I'm correct, it will only spool quicker if it's under the stall RPM of the converter. i.e., with a 2800 stall converter, if I hit WOT at 2000RPM, it will jump quickly to 2800RPM, then act like it normally does. Correct? If so...not sure how this really helps, as a downshift almost always puts the RPMs at 3500+. Now, if it brought it from 3500 up to 4200 quicker, that would be great, but I don't think that's the case.
You and I have about the same amount of knowledge about it, but I think I can add a few things.
A torque converter should be matched properly to the engine's output. So not all torque converters are created equal and the engine hp also has an effect on it.
So to use your example, the car will accelerate more quickly before it reaches the "stall" speed and then the higher stall speed means its closer to the powerband, as I understand it.
If your downshift still keeps you in your powerband, then that isn't what its for.
So the question was how do you increase acceleration before the meat of the powerband, correct? The higher-stall torque converter allows you to do that.
geez, a little testy in here! Simmer down, boys. On any given day any car can snuff another...
Back on topic... the sweet wifey and I were returning late last nite from some family stuff. It's a great drive, almost no traffic. The last 50 miles are a toll road.
There's a big sweeping entrance to the road, my wife really takes it hard, blows up the ramp and flies into the toll pass lane. We are cruising at 90 even.
Tailights ahead, Ms. Fearless still doing 90. The car is a newer Mustang. She nearly blows him off the road, he seems to take offense. Comes charging back up and paces us about a car back.
Wife rolls it smoothly to 100, Mustang roars by, very loud exhaust. She nails it and roars right back by as he let off. Game on. His exhaust is so loud I can tell exactly what he's doing.
He resumes his pace, then moves up alongside. He nails it and tears off, my woman is right on it after a momentary delay, so the Mustang has about 2 lengths to begin with.
By the time we hit 120 we are gaining really smoothly and we sail by as easy as pie, almost hit 140 but the outcome was pretty bad for the Ford. Would have just gotten worse the faster we went.
I love this girl!

My Favorite "old car"... 73 Super Duty 455 Trans Am - 13.08 @109 mph when brand new! Just try and find one now!
older Viper RT/10 .... ok, so not a kill, but I really really was hoping he would take the bait. No dice. I looked it up on my blackberry (as I normally do if I'm not sure how I'll fare against a car I see), and the early 90s RT/10s look like a 13.4 1/4 mile, which means I would have had a good shot at him. I was really hoping to beat him, just for the bragging rights of beating a Viper. He was just hanging out at 60mph and wouldn't go for it.
And Steve, if you ever get divorced, let me know....wish my wife supported the habit like yours does!
Steve, my wife gets mad at me if I go more than 15 mph over the speed limit! As far as taking turns fast, my wife drives like a granny, but she doesn't drive my SRT8. My kids love it when I go around turns fast, but my wife will usually yell at me or just punch me in the arm! I'm glad to hear your wife is a good sport, and that she is daring enough to kill a Mustang!
Had some Mustang GT 06 or 07 start reving next to me and I totally smoked him. I don't know if he couldn't shift or what but he was pissed!
This morning had some crazy Chev Blazer with all the mods stickers and the big pipes sticking out the back, I played with him the first hundred feet or so then just punched it past him.
Steve, you lucky dog!
My wife drives a hybrid (her choice)... nuf said.
