11 second 300SRT 8 History/Mods/Problems/Goal

11sec SRT 8 History/Modifications/Problems/Tuning/Goal

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crE94hZdTOY

HISTORY:
This car was born in November 2005. The car was brought to GS Motorsports in March 2006 to La Habra California for the 6.1 Liter Supercharger along with Kooks full length headers, Magnaflow exhaust, Ported Polish Heads & Intake, Quaife differential, 22 inch Intro Wheels. The car was first debut at Spring Fling April 2006. GS dyno showed 540RWHP with 522 torque. This car is my daily driver putting over approx 420 miles a week. With the supercharger I have a total of 7 months since April 2006.

MODIFICATIONS:
Novi 1500 Supercharger running 8 PSI w/ Split Second Tuner
Kooks Long Tube Headers
Ported and Polished Heads w/ Bee Hive Springs
Ported and Polished Intake
BG Flash Stage II
Nitto Drag Radials
Quafie Differential
KW Suspension
22 Inch Intro Wheels

PROBLEMS:
After the first 2-3 weeks the supercharger was making loud grinding noise that was immediately replaced by Scott. If anyone has Kooks Full Length headers out there be prepared to re-tighten the header bolts after a few hundred miles and again later. I had to replace the driver’s side header gasket and let me tell you it was not easy. I have a lift/hoist in my garage so getting to the header bolts on the bottom made it easy somewhat. From the top if you don’t have small hands be prepared to get scrapes on your knuckles and forearms. The header collector that attaches to the magnaflows also needs to be re-tighten from time to time.

TUNING:
This is where people might agree or disagree. I can only speak for my car. I have been reading the forums since I bought my car in November 2005 and more so in April after putting the Supercharger in. I have never posted any results on the supercharger because I felt there should be more R&D time on the car before any premature presumptions. This R&D time I’m talking about was my own. I have over a hundred data logs from Innovate XD-16 gauge Logworks 2.0 program and over 50 pulls on the dyno. My goal was to be one of the fastest SRT8 in the country. With that goal in mine it takes a lot of time and patience, oh and money too! I was aware of the threads of superchargers running lean on the 2 front cylinders. This made me very cautious on my own application. You know what the secret to that is? It’s very old school……READING YOUR SPARK PLUGS!!!! Before I get into that let me tell you my back ground, I’m a FORD GUY, well now it’s FORD/CHRYSLER GUY! I have a PRO 50 1990 Mustang with a Kenny Duttweiller built motor set up for 2000HP ¼ drag. Before this car was transformed into a drag car this car was hitting high tens with a stock 5.0Liter Block. This was done in the early- mid 90’s. Back then we did not have technology that we have today like AFR gauges, Data Loggers, etc. Back then all we had was, Do a Pass and read your spark plugs. If the plugs were oily you were too rich if the plugs had peppering with metal flakes you were at the threshold of detonation. With a Innovate XD-16 Gauge that monitors your AFR tuning would make things easier. But that did not stop me from still checking the spark plugs. I have pulled all 16 plugs so many times that I had to replace the bolts on the coils! I paid particular attention to the two front cylinders. If my AFR is reading 11.5 and I pull my plugs and see peppering on the 2 front cylinders, I know something is not right. I can tell you that on my car, my reading on the plugs are the same on all 8 cylinders. To me reading AFR’s and Spark Plugs go hand in hand. My racing crew
www.unlimited-racing.com are proven cars that run in the low 13’s to mid 6’s in the ¼ mile. From Mustangs, Vette’s, Camaro’s, Drag Bike’s etc. Tuning from DFI, MOTEC, FAST, etc. You can check out our website and see the downloads to see our cars in action.

GOAL:
Hitting high tens on a stock block 6.1L. We will see. If the motor goes oh well time for the new project! If I can hit a very, very low 11 or high ten, imagine what I would run with a built bottom end? Hmmm. A cage will definitely be in the plans. If anyone wants to bet money that this bottom end is not stock, step up and be ready to lose your money. To all the haters “Don’t be a Hater be a Congratulator” I have yet to see anyone else pushing the limits of these cars. All I hear is complaints of how my car sounds or popping in the shifts, or the motor is going to grenade. If your a real gear head that's part of trial and error in tuning a motor. I am pushing the limits on the stock 6.1L. If I hit a high Ten without grenading the motor what will people say then? If the motor goes.... let's just say for every end there is a beginning ………..

Thanks to Jose and Jeff for helping me tune and dyno time, Mike for the video and the crew at www.unlimited-racing.com

Awsome man . A pioneer with king size balls !!! I watched that video about ten times !!!!! A fair estimation of what this mod is all about and the risks involved , from an educated source . We will owe you a debt of gratitude for seeing just how far you can push these things . Thanks for keeping us tuned and for taking us along with you in that sick ride . - Mike .

I'd like to second that goal. I have been fending off haters of moding my/your car the way one likes to as well. Mostly via PM. I love your goal and the way you put it.

Love your car, love your attitude-and the way you have gone about your business. WELL DONE

Thanks for sharing your info and the video.

Moose.

Thumbs up Amazing real life 11 sec pass

If it were not for video and my being present i would not have known based on others runs, even from Vendors online that's by far the Baddest pass of all, proving this car is a solid runner, yet mid 11's is very close to Cage time, yet funny thing is who would think a 4dr sedan would even need a cage on street tires. Mid 11's, Wow! Can't wait to see that Black beast run in the 10's. Props to your crew and all the time spent on the dyno and the tuning patience it takes to get things right.

Leading the way for all LX performance ET & Mph club, on 22's and DR's. Goal isn't far away with the approach your taking.

Sleeper may have to go FI once again.

udluuz...Awesome video, write up, and car!!!! I am in the first stages of the same journey with a 5.7 AWD...following in your wake. To the end of preserving my investment and reducing the cost of trial and error (mostly error) I would like to ask you a few questions...

After you saw signs of lean on the front cylinders how did you adjust? Was it across the board with the GSM piggyback increasing the fuel at the TB or were you able to adjust per cylinder with the B&G stage II flash? If it was with the GSM piggyback were you fouling the back cylinders to get the front OK? Did you install the 02 sensor on just one of the tails of your headers so you were just measuring the F/A to one side of the engine?

For the advancement of science, forum knowledge, and the salvation of my engine I look forward to your answers.

Thanks.
